Eagle Scout Court of Honor: Three Boy Scouts from Troop 1 achieve Eagle Scout rank
June 11, 2010
by Christine Yeres
At Westorchard on Wednesday evening, June 10, Boy Scout Troop 1 celebrated the elevation of three of its own to the rank of Eagle Scout. Gordon Seltzer, Philip Sieverding and Russell Sparks completed service projects on behalf of New Castle to earn this highest honor.
Gordon Seltzer cleared and blazed a trail network in Warburg Park, and employed GPS coordinates to enable a trail map to be posted on the New Castle website.
Philip Sieverding rebuilt an historic stone wall, cleared trail areas and established a parking area for the Saw Mill Audubon Society’s Haas Sanctuary in New Castle.
Russell Sparks rebuilt and extended a wetlands educational trail at the Grafflin School, and with the help of a Rotary Club grant, constructed environmentally appropriate crossings and installed educational signage along the trail.

I want to thank these young men for their work, but I would love to know who rebuilt the trail at the Burden Preserve. I walked it again a couple weeks ago and I was incredibly impressed!! Thanks to all the eagle scouts who volunteer to make these areas more accessible to us all.
