The Chappaqua Schools Green Fair, a collaborative effort of students and faculty from the Chappaqua School District and members of the Chappaqua PTA, will be held on Saturday, March 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Seven Bridges Middle School. The cost for the fair is $5 per student or $10 per family, if parents and children come together. The Green Fair will be a fun and educational event to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues and to educate the community about sustainable living.

At the helm, high school and middle school students will take on leadership roles to educate middle and elementary-aged students about sustainability in a series of student-initiated workshops. The PTA will sponsor a hands-on Expo throughout the day, where students, local non-profits and businesses, and government organizations dedicated to sustainability will demonstrate ways to “go green.”

Best of all, student booths will showcase sustainability in our community and schools. Student booths will showcase a solar power demonstration; a demonstration of how to use garbage to produce electricity; tips for making a home more energy efficient; demonstrations on how to use trash for new purposes; and suggestions on how to make the cafeterias throughout the district more environmentally friendly.

Special programs this year will include an 11:00 a.m. presentation from the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) in South Salem featuring Atka, one of the Center’s wolf ambassadors.  Attendees will learn about this fascinating and topical species and the important mission of the WCC.  Popular local artist Michael Albert will conduct a hands-on collage project for kids featuring “recycled” art.  And everyone can share the fun at the Mobilize for Earth Day workshop creating kinetic works of art that show the community’s vision for our planet’s future.  The mobiles will be displayed at the Chappaqua Public Library in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

The Expo will also showcase local and sustainably produced foods from Table Local Market of Bedford Hills and Pony Express of Pleasantville.

Chappaqua’s Green Fair is a great way for students from elementary school through high school to learn how to protect our environment and to confront global warming.
