(HS Boys) Chappaqua Falcons 3 - Rye 0
The Falcons beat Rye today, 3 - 0, with a great effort all around. Goals by Ben Vanderwerff, Jake Ward and Stephen Novenstern and an excellent defensive effort allowed the Falcons to get to a total of 10 points on the season. Alex Pappas, Scott Zenker and Benji Shanus lead the team defensively in front of Adam Krebs along with Jon Allard and Zane Cacace.
(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Jaguars 2 - Pelham Blizzard 0
The Jaguars rebounded strongly today at Upper Gedney against a strong Pelham Blizzard team, winning 2-0 on two second half goals by Olivia Kerester. Jamie Baum and Lindsey Hill earned the shutout in the goal. The score was tied at the half. The Jaguars, playing against the slope in the second half, overcame that obstacle with tenacious play at both ends, completely dominating the half. The entire team played well, with crisp passing and good support for each other. Nice job girls!
(HS Boys) Chappaqua Gunners 0 - Ossining Falcons 2
After keeping Ossining scoreless in the first half due to some exceptional goalkeeping from Colby Leimer and excellent defending by the back four of Alex Gatto, Gabe Weissmann, Chris Ethridge and Logan Knoezer, Ossining was able to convert on two corner kicks in the second half to win 2 - 0. The Gunners created some scoring chances in both halves but weren’t able to convert any for goals. Although tough to take, the Gunners played exceptionally well as a team and look to build towards their next game. After a week off, the Gunners are back in action on June 1 against Pelham at Upper Gedney Park at 11:00 a.m.
(U11 Boys) Chappaqua Rovers 2 - Armonk Avalanche 0
Chappaqua Rovers beat the Armonk Avalanche 2 - 0. The Rovers played hard and had several chances in the first half but the game remained scoreless at the half. Once the second half started the Rovers turned up the tempo and Doug Alpuche and Jonathan Kratz put the Rovers on the board with the lead and the win. The whole team played great once again and all deserve credit for the win.
(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Dynamo 1 - Bedford 1
The Chappaqua Dynamo tied this week’s game 1-1 against Bedford. It appeared that the girls had lots of fun playing in the rain; the parents didn’t seem to like it much though!
(U10 Boys) Chappaqua Thunder 2 - Edgemont 0
The Chappaqua Thunder defeated a talented Edgemont team 2 - 0 today in the pouring rain. All the boys worked together as a unit. Jake Cohen scored on a beautiful corner from Justin Schacter in the fifteenth minute of the first half. In the twelfth minute of the second period, Greg Ginsberg took a long throw from Jake Cohen and flicked the ball across the 18 to a charging Connor Groppa for the second goal. Matt Neuberger and Zander Levitz are entitled to a special mention for their stellar play in goal.
(U10 Boys) Chappaqua Wildcats 4 - Yonkers Panthers 4
On November 11, 2007, the Chappaqua Wildcats found themselves trailing the Yonkers Panthers 3-1, in Yonkers, with only a couple of minutes to go. With reckless abandon, the Wildcats put enormous pressure on the Panthers and scored two goals, the last with seconds to go, to force a tie in the last game of the fall season. Today, the Yonkers Panthers traveled to Chappaqua to avenge the Wildcats comeback. Each team moved up a division in spring play and this much anticipated rematch did not disappoint.
Chappaqua got off to a quick 3 - 0 lead thanks to aggressive play all around by the Wildcats and three goals in a row by Mark Schenkel. However, Yonkers fought back and tied the score with three goals in a row from one of their star players wearing number 7. The Wildcats kept the pressure on in the second half and took the lead back midway through the half on a goal by Alex Vanderwerff, only to have number 7 on Yonkers score his fourth goal of the game, and send both teams home with another tie. Next week the Wildcats travel to Rye Brook to play the Cosmos.
(U14 Girls) Chappaqua Hornets 4 - New Rochelle 4
Earlier this spring, the Hornets lost to New Rochelle 5-1. This week, we played a solid all around game to a 4 - 4 tie. Lauren Marsico scored two goals and Jenny Mak and Kelly Ginsberg each scored as well. It was hard fought game with good effort by the entire team.
(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Wildfire 1 - Edgemont Shooting Stars 1
The Wildfire tied Edgemont 1-1 in the team’s third match up in two months. The Wildfire was determined to beat the Shooting Stars. Thea Schwartz and Sammy Attia were outstanding in goal, blocking numerous Edgemont attempts to score. They were aided by Bernadette Grant, Leah Nankof, Kathryn Marcon and Carolyn Silipigni who provided the Wildfire with a strong defense. Lexie McGowan and Kimberly Rota showed off their speed at midfield by continuously beating their opponents to the ball. Charlotte Whalen, Lizzie Neuberger, Isabel Lafortezza, and Michaela Dickson fought a tough Edgemont defense and helped to keep the ball at the opponent’s end of the field. Jamie Roteman scored Chappaqua’s only goal with just a few minutes left on the clock and tied the game for the Wildfire. Despite the rainy weather a great game was played by all. The Wildfire will take the Memorial Day weekend off, and look forward to playing Pelham Sunday June 1 at home.
(U12 Girls) Chappaqua Tigers 2 - Scarsdale Twister 2
On Saturday the Tigers struggled to get going in the first half and found themselves down at halftime 1-0. The Tigers rallied in the second half, however, and took a 2 - 1 lead going into the last ten minutes of the game. Unfortunately they could not hold on and had to settle for a 2 - 2 tie.
(U12 Girls) Chappaqua Tigers 3 - Larchmont Lightning 0
The Tigers were back on the field Sunday for another league match-up with Larchmont. The Tigers dominated much of the first half but had trouble finding the back of the net, ending the half at 0 – 0. The Tigers came out hard the second half and were clearly the better team. Midway through the half the goals started to come. In the end three Tiger shots found the goal and the Tigers cruised to victory improving their league record to 3-2-1.
(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Liberty 1 - Rye Brook 2
This extremely well played match against arch rival Rye Brook was not reflected in the final score. Rye Brook struck first on a lucky goal that found the back of the net. Their second goal was a nice arching shot to the top of the goal. Juliana Posen and Sara McElheny supplied strong defensive play for the Liberty; also stepping up were Caroline Whalen and Ally Kuhn. Lily Wolfensohn was on fire with great ball control and play making. Audrey Seligman scored for the Liberty on a fine left-footed placement after many close calls that the Liberty just couldn’t convert. This ends the Liberty’s home/away two game schedule with Rye Brook and leaves just four games left in the spring season. Great game in the mud at Gedney!
(U10 Girls) Chappaqua Mustangs 2 - Rye Wreckers 0
The game began with the rain pouring down on our fearless players. They were excited to play in such adverse conditions feeling undaunted by the wet, muddy field. Both teams fought hard with a scoreless game until the second half when Emma Fetner took advantage of a breakaway, outrunning her opponents to score goal number 1. A short while later, Amanda Glass boldly fought off two opponents to win control and score goal number 2. Assists were made by Michaela Schapiro and Sam Bernstein. Fantastic defense by goalie Ava Gurman and strong goal kicks by Katrin Lewis and Madison Weisser kept Rye to a scoreless outing. It was a rousing game!
