Chappaqua Quake 0 - Rye 0
In a very well played game, the Chappaqua Quake held their opponents from Rye to a 0-0 tie. In their first game back after the winter and with two players out with injuries, every Quake girl played her heart out. The Rye team had a multitude of substitutions whereas the Quake was down to only one. The Quake held their own and refused to let Rye score. We are looking forward to a great season!
Chappaqua Revolution 1 - Rye Sharks 1
The Chappaqua Revolution travelled to Rye to face the Rye Sharks. The Sharks scored at the seven minute mark of the first half. The Revolution pressured the Sharks the whole second half culminating in a goal with one minute to play by Alessandra Ahlmen. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Chappaqua Screaming Eagles 3 - Mamaroneck 1
The Screaming Eagles opened their spring season with a hard fought 3-1 defeat at the hands of Mamaroneck. Nick Fears scored for the Screaming Eagles on a tremendous hustle play to tie the score and regain the momentum. His goal came near the end of a first half in which the Screaming Eagles got the better of the play.
Starting the second half tied at 1-1, the Screaming Eagles just weren’t able to convert their scoring chances in a Mamaroneck-controlled second half. Meanwhile, Mamaroneck, despite awesome goaltending from Harrison Tulman, was able to score two goals on very difficult, unstoppable plays that the Screaming Eagles and their faithful followers could do nothing about but applaud. Competing hard until the final whistle, the boys played one of their best all around games and if the energy and quality of play persists, the spring season will be a success regardless of their record.
The defensive play was outstanding with Peter Gallagher and David Miller leading the effort against a much larger and strong-footed opponent. Spencer Singer and Eric Meyer were at the top of their games as well and, along with Richard Bagnato, as well as great goaltending from Josh Goodman and Tulman, were all important reasons the Screaming Eagles conceded no soft goals.
The offense and midfield played well and created enough deep penetration that on most days would have led to more goals. In addition to Fears, Mark Schenkel, Tulman, Bagnato and Steven Kucharik pressed the attack from striker and Meyer, Tyler Sherman, Aaron Begleiter, Brad Neufeld Singer and Goodman all contributed significantly at both ends of the field from midfield.
Chappaqua United 2 - Manhattan Aston Villa 1
Chappaqua United started off their spring season on the right foot with a well earned two to one victory. After several excellent scoring chances United opened the scoring midway through the first half when Paul Gadaleta hit Randy Ginsburg with a beautiful pass and Ginsburg fired a shot into the top of the goal from 20 yards away.
United’s strong play continued in the second half when during the first five minutes Zach Schoenfeld made a perfect pass to Malt Altman, who then played a well-timed through ball to Randy Ginsburg who beat the Manhattan’s keeper from short range. Manhattan did not show any quit and cut the margin in half with a breakaway goal with about 10 minutes remaining.
That goal seemed to energize United, who carried the play during the rest of the game and although they had many scoring chances, they could not add another score. Strong midfield play was provided by Jonathan Kratz and Jack Dowd. Nate Morris and Luke Cohen lead the defensive effort.
Chappaqua Power 0 - Mt Pleasant Galaxy 0
The U12 Chappaqua Power played a tough Mt. Pleasant team in their spring season opener. Right from the start both teams fought hard and shot numerous times on goal. Strong goal tending by Sammy Attia and Jacqueline Bertan helped to keep Mt. Pleasant scoreless. The Power never let up, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The clock ran out leaving the game in 0-0 tie. The Power is looking forward to taking on Yonkers next Sunday.
Chappaqua Liberty 4 - Harrison Hornets 4
In what proved to be nothing short of spectacular, the women of the
Chappaqua Liberty never gave up, dug as deep as they ever have, and
tied a very strong Harrison Hornets team in Harrison 4-4.
Under brisk skies that turned warm and sunny, the Liberty girls, who
worked very hard over the winter, came out prepared for a tough
match. The Liberty struck first, with a fine goal by Kathleen
Chen. Harrison struck back, and went up 2-1 to end the first half.
The start of the second half found the Liberty struggling, as they
found themselves down 4-1 with just 12 minutes remaining. After
missing several scoring opportunities earlier in the game, a ball off the post, and two arcing over the net – one on a penalty kick, Eva Sibinga sparked the team with a terrific shot that found the back of the net. Defense firmed up, with outstanding play by Sara McElheny, Juliana Posen and Brett Finkelstein, and with the midfield strength of Lily Wolfensohn and Maura Grant, the Liberty found its rhythm.
It was then that Taylor Hochstin ignited. She scored her first goal on a nice kick to the corner of the net. With only minutes remaining in the game, Taylor pushed the ball through a scrum in front of the net; it found its way past the Harrison keeper for the tie. An outstanding display of heart and commitment, the Liberty begin spring 2009 on a high note that bodes well for a successful season!
