New to the NCCTV film festival this year is a public service announcement category in which New Castle middle and high school students are invited to create anti-drug and -alcohol messages in either film or posters (using any medium).
Sponsored jointly by the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps and New Castle CARES, the contest will run until December 15, and on March 29, 2008, Northern Westchester Hospital will award cash prizes to the winners at the festival’s grand showing and exhibit at the Chappaqua Library (see “Sundance in New Castle”).
The requirements of the PSA contest are different from those of the main festival. Film submissions must be two minutes or less, and participants may create an 11 inch x17 inch poster in any medium. These works will be exhibited in the library next March. Judges are local film and advertising professionals.

In October, Greeley sophomore Alix Diaconis met with producer Dan Lindau, a partner at Crossroads Films, a multi-media communications production company with facilities in New York, Los Angeles and London, to talk about public service announcements. Lindau brought along clips of PSAs funded by grant money from the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and analyzed them. The interview is nine minutes. Click here to watch it on YouTube.
Visit http://www.ChappaquaVAC.org for details of the contest and more tips on how to make your PSA a winner. Entrants have until December 15 to submit their works; the drop off point is the Chappaqua Library.
