Submitted by the following Chappaqua Youth Soccer Club coaches: Lisa McGowan, Rob Schenkel, Corey Shanus, Yoonho Park, David Libowitz, Larry Novenstern, Jamie Inglis, Nick Vertucci, Larry Grob, Jacques Levy, Edward Finkelstein, Larry Cohen, Karin Wollschlaeger, Ruth Parnes, Nicholas Giannasca, Chris Harris, Barry Dinaburg and Julie Lowitz.

(U14 Girls) Edgemont Panthers 2 - Chappaqua Stars 1

The Stars played some of our best soccer in the first half; crisp passing, great movement without the ball, suffocating defense, fabulous crosses. The only weakness was finishing; with a little more luck we could have easily had four or five goals at the half. The girls played well at the beginning of the second half as well and were unlucky to hit the post and had a shot blocked at the goal line.

Two goals in the second half from Edgemont, one of them extremely controversial to say the least, was the difference in the game. We should have put the game away long before then. I can’t stress enough how proud all the coaches were of the efforts by the girls yesterday. With no subs in the second half, and on a very bad field, we showed that we were by far the better team and with a bit more luck could and should have won this game handily.

(U11 Boys) Chappaqua Rover 3 - Scarsdale 2

The Rovers played all out for their moms today and beat first-place Scarsdale 3-2. The outstanding play by the whole team was highlighted by scores from Joshua Lieberman, Jack Daly and the winning goal by Matt Altman. Keeper Robertson “Bo” Phillips was superb in the net and Jason Neff had two excellent assists.

(U10 Boys) New Rochelle 2 - Chappaqua Thunder 1

Chappaqua Thunder lost a tough game today to New Rochelle. Justin Simpson scored a nice goal that was set up by Connor Groppa.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Wildfire 2 - Yonkers Colts 3

The Wildfire came up short in a nail biting game versus the Yonkers Colts. This was the second match up for the two teams in two weeks. The Wildfire were confident coming off their win from the prior week. Jamie Roteman scored late in the first half for the Wildfire to take a 1-0 lead. As the second half progressed the Wildfire fell behind 1-2. With less than two minutes to go, Lexie McGowan scored for the Wildfire to tie up the game. Yonkers answered back with another goal with less than 30 seconds on the clock for the win. It was very exciting game and a great effort by the entire team. The Wildfire are looking forward to their game Sunday against Edgemont.

(U10 Boys) Harrison Attack 5 - Chappaqua Wildcats 1

On a beautiful, sunny Mother’s Day at Purchase Elementary School, the Chappaqua Wildcats found themselves up against the strongest team they had played thus far. With Harrison clearly the better team during the first half and after making a few careless errors, Chappaqua found themselves down 4-0 at halftime. To their credit, the Wildcats regrouped and showed poise and maturity in dueling to a 1-1 second half tie, making the final score 5-1.

(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Liberty 2 - Edgemont 1

The Liberty really stepped up on Sunday against a tough Edgemont squad. With all players ready to go, the Liberty struck first with a nice goal by Lily Wolfensohn. The second goal was picture-perfect on a nice crossing pass from Jackie Seltzer that Alexandra Medway chipped into the back of the net. A penalty called in the box created Edgemont’s goal on the penalty kick. Liberty displayed excellent defensive effort plus nice ball control and heads-up playing throughout the game. Caroline Whalen, Ally Kuhn and Eva Sabinga especially played key roles in this Liberty victory.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Rockets 2 - Pelham Rockets 2

It was a battle of the first place Pelham Rockets (4-0) against the Chappaqua Rockets (1-2), two teams with completely different starts to the season. (The Chappaqua Rockets were 2-0-1 against Pelham in the fall.) Pelham was firing on all cylinders and the Chappaqua Rockets were playing solidly but not scoring goals despite many opportunities. The Chappaqua girls dominated the first 15 minutes of play, including Alessandra Giannasca’s strike that sailed above the crossbar, but they came up empty. Pelham scored on a corner to make it 1-0 at the half.

The girls showed real character in the second half, with Dana Weinberg breaking free to take a sweet through ball from Morgan Spiegel and equalizing. After Pelham went ahead 2-1 on a rebound finished by an unmarked trailing striker, the Chappaqua girls fought back with lots of pressure in the Pelham penalty box. This resulted in a penalty kick after one of our players was tripped. Bella Ardizzone buried the ball for a 2-2 score with three minutes left in the game. The momentum swung decidedly to Chappaqua’s side for the remaining minutes, but they could not penetrate enough for a quality shot. This was a satisfying result against the most successful team in our division.

(U14 Girls) Chappaqua Hornets 1 - Greenberg 1

The Hornets played a good game on Sunday and tied Greenberg 1-1. Issy Berkey scored on a nice left footed shot to tie the game. The Hornet’s defense came through with some great play (Sammie Cartolano, Katie Mak, Leah Vanderwerff and Sarah Nadler) and Annabel Lindau played a terrific game-in goal, her first since being injured. All in all, it was a very solid team effort.

(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Jaguars 0 - JPSC Sparks 1

The Jaguars played a very well fought game. Despite dominating almost the entire game, the Jaguars were unable to prevent JPSC from scoring when one of their players missed a pass, but was amazed the ball bounced off her knee into the goal. The Jaguars created lots of opportunities, but were unable to convert. The team is getting better every game at controlling the ball, setting up plays and executing. At the same time, the game got very physical and the Jaguars held their ground despite being smaller.

(U11 Boys) Bedford Liberty 4 - Chappaqua Eagles 2

The Chappaqua Eagles encountered a difficult adversary in its friendly rival Bedford. Chappaqua scored first on a quick goal to the far post by Woody Grob, only 40 seconds into the game. Despite several key saves by Keeper Jack Reiss, Bedford mounted an assault with three goals by halftime. Paul Gadaleta took over as keeper from Reiss and made numerous diving saves that drew “oohs and ahhs” from the Mother’s Day fans. Alex Scheine and Randy Ginsburg met the challenging task of marking Bedford’s best player man-to-man. Chappaqua forwards, Jack Dowd and Eddie Chaves, kept the pressure on by crossing balls from the corners of the field, and Alex Wiseman scored on a perfectly executed header. Zach Schoenfeld also had an exciting headball off a cross from Ben Goldenberg that ricocheted off the crossbar for a near goal. Cole Findling and Charlie Levitz played full throttle for Chappaqua as they have done in every game.

(U12 Girls) Chappaqua Tigers 3 - Manhattan Hotspurs 1

The Chappaqua Tigers rebounded nicely from a tough 3-2 loss the previous weekend by beating the top team in the division 3-1. The Tigers took command of the game early and jumped ahead on a long freekick. The Hotspurs got the equalizer shortly after as the teams went to the half 1-1. After generating several good scoring chances, the Tigers were awarded a penalty midway through the second half. Nicely converted, the Tigers stormed ahead 2-1 and never looked back. The Tigers finished them off with a late goal to cap a terrific effort all around.

(U10 Girls) Chappaqua Mustangs 0 - Pelham Lightening 2

The Chappaqua Mustangs played the Pelham Lightening and lost 0-2. It was a good effort by the Mustangs but they just could not complete the offensive plays.

(U10 Boys) Chappaqua Screaming Eagles 0 - Briarcliff 5

The Screaming Eagles played their best half of the year, dueling a superior Briarcliff team to a 0 – 0 tie at the half. Jake Gordon was a rock in goal and Peter Gallagher, Bradley Dodderidge, Bobby Biggar, Eric Meyer and others put up a stubborn resistance on defense. David Miller, Josh Goodman and Aaron Begleiter made some very dangerous counterstrikes on offense that almost resulted in several scores and Michael Schippman and Alex Imberman kept Briarcliff in check in the midfield. Playing shorthanded with few subs, the Screaming Eagles were still in the game with just a few minutes to go before fatigue and a few bad breaks resulted in a slew of Briarcliff goals near the end of the game.
