The Greeley boys’ swimming and diving team were undefeated again this year in their conference meets and won the divisional competition two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the Greeley boys did not hold on to the sectional title this year. In an exciting competition, Tappen Zee came in first in Sectionals; Greeley came in second.

Although Greeley did not win, the Quakers had more swimmers make it back to finals at Sectionals this year than last year, they just did not place as high. Greeley also had more swimmers this year who qualified for the State competition, which will be held in Buffalo at the end of this month.

Eight Greeley swimmers made the State cut: seniors Matt Hadley (100 Free, 200 Free, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay); Mike Nicholson (100 Breast, 200 Individual Medley, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay); Will Robins (100 Breast, 200 Individual Medley); junior Taegan Clarke (200 Free, 100 Back, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay); sophomores Henry Simon (500 Free), Josh Tesser (200 Medley Relay); and freshmen Risten Clarke (100 Free, 200 Free, 400 Free Relay) and Chris Koster (100 Back).

In addition to the state qualifiers, seniors Fumi Asaga, Alec Sherman and Graham Roberts, junior Chris Pest (a diver) and sophomores Jared Krosser and Tommy St. Vincent scored points, which means they made finals, at Sectionals. The other swimmers who competed at the Sectional meet were seniors Teddy Wesolowski and Dean Silverman and juniors Thai Donenfeld and Jake Rosenbloom.

Highlights at Sectionals included Matt Hadley’s wins in both his individual events (200 Free and 100 Free), Mike Nicholson’s win in the 200 Individual Medley, with an All American Consideration time, and the 400 Free Relay win by Matt, Mike, Taegan Clarke and Risten Clarke.
