Last night the Framingham, Massachusetts school superintendent search, in which Chappaqua Schools Superintendent David Fleishman was one of four finalists, ended with the hiring of Watertown, Massachusetts Superintendent Stephen Hiersche. The Framingham district received 27 applications for the superintendent position.

“It was the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in my 16 years on the school committee,” said Phil Dinsky, chairman of the seven-member body, the Massachusetts equivalent of Chappaqua’s school board. “Fleishman was an outstanding candidate. You’ve been lucky to have him.”

Fleishman, superintendent here since 2005, announced a little more than a week ago that he was in the running for the Framingham job, citing his need to move closer to his family, who have remained in Massachusetts during his tenure here. Despite the job search, Fleishman has made clear his commitment to seeing through Chappaqua’s budget process this spring.
