After my interview with Grace Bennett, she announced a multi-country trip through Africa with a group of journalists following Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “The Nelson Mandela House in Soweto seemed like a good place for State Department staff to take us all today. Here I am with our volunteer house guide, a 21-year-old student at Central Johannesburg College, in Winnie Mandela’s office.”

THE CHAPPAQUA TURF COMMITTEE
$600,000 has been secured for the turf field to date, and only $400,000 remains to be raised. In order to have the field ready for the spring athletic season, funds must be raised by September 30th. With only 200+ families participating thus far, there is a great opportunity to vastly increase participation and meet our goal.

We would like to introduce our newest trainer, Amber Jo Salamone, at Prescriptions for Fitness, Inc. She specializes in full body composition, strength training, and toning. She graduated in December 2011, from the State University of Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Ecology. Amber Jo has been a trainer for many years and specializes in designing programs that will help you reach your goals. MUSIC IN CHAPPAQUA
Fall registration is in full swing. While some of our instructors have their schedules complete, there are still plenty of spots left and we’d love to see you at our studio. We are thrilled to announce that strings instructor Gjilberta Gelaj has joined out staff. Gelaj under a full scholarship, attended the Music Conservatory at SUNY Purchase College, Mannes College of music in Manhattan and most recently, Gjilberta received a Masters in Music Education from the Steinhardt School of Education at NYU. She has performed frequently in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. Most recently Gelaj became member of the Westchester Chamber Symphony and Violoncello Professor at Allen Stevenson School for Boys in Manhattan.
Our vocal student, Claire Walsh, who studies under the guidance of Danny Richard, will present an evening of jazz at Crabtree’s Kittle House on Sunday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Students at our summer rock camp, New York Rock Academy entertained the Town Camp in the Seven Bridges Auditorium – everyone had a great time. We are looking forward to planning future events with the Town of New Castle.
