Hail to a new chief!

At the Tuesday, July 8th Town Board meeting, James Baynes was appointed Chief of Police for the Town of New Castle.
Chief Baynes began his career in New Castle as a patrolman in 1973, joining the department within months of Bob Breen and Jim Tully.
Baynes rose through the ranks of sergeant and lieutenant and has served as the Weapons of Mass Destruction/Radiological Response Coordinator and Domestic Violence Coordinator as well as Internal Investigations Coordinator.
In September 2007 Baynes was named acting chief. With the official retirement of Chief Robert Breen In February 2008, the Town appointed Baynes provisional chief pending the results of the civil service examination.
The position carries a salary of $137,773 a year.
