Host a student for 10 weekdays this summer for a unique Chappaqua experience

When speaking to the 2005 Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program graduates, Bill Clinton said, “This program is a jewel in the crown of Chappaqua. I know from experience what it means to have someone reach out a hand to help a stranger.”

Want a special experience this summer? Host a Chappaqua Summer Scholarship student for ten weekdays and feel good, have fun, and participate in a program that is unique to Chappaqua.

Searching not just for families with kids

The program is now searching for host families for two-week intervals during the 2010 program, which will run from July 4 through July 30.  If you are away July 4 weekend, don’t worry—a board member will host the student until you return.

Students will stay with their Chappaqua hosts Sunday evenings through Friday morning, returning to the city for the weekends.  Participants are bused from your home to school in the morning, and return to their hosts in the late afternoon. Families with young children, teens, and empty-nesters have all found hosting a wonderful experience, and a commitment of only two weeks, that weighs very lightly.

The Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program (CSSP) was founded in 1968 by local residents who wanted to share Chappaqua’s excellent schools, local resources and beautiful surroundings with high-achieving, low-income students from the city. In addition, the founders believed in the value of building friendships between young people in the city and the suburbs.

Amy McNamara, a former Board member and host parent for twenty years put it this way:

“CSSP students have brought much to our family over the years. When our girls were young, they easily brought welcome intellectual conversation into our house. As our girls got older, the students served as true role models with their good study habits and a sense of determination to advance their knowledge. Later, as peers, they became good friends with our girls. They were always like a gift to David and me. We provided a home for them, but they provided insight into their varied lives. They were a true treasure.”

This is a wonderful program that I have participated in for 4 years.  They are great kids and are truly appreciative of the opportunity to spend some time in Westchester.  There is very little that you need to do for them other than providing room and board along with picking them up in the afternoon.  These are highly intelligent students who go through a rigorous process to get chosen.  I highly encourage you to participate.
