Letter to the Editor: Fire Commissioners must get Needs Assessment to community and Planning Board
June 27, 2008

On Monday evening, I attended a meeting of the Millwood Board of Fire Commissioners, expecting to hear the results of the Needs Study for the proposed new firehouse. I was disappointed once again. It seems the commissioners and the community are still poles apart.
Still work to be done, the Commissioners say, meanwhile the firehouse on route 120 is crumbling, the members of the fire company are without a decent home and the residents grow more and more frustrated as they see the process grind on.
As a West End resident and former member of the Millwood Task Force, I have followed this project for more than 10 years and the lack of progress is inexcusable.
The Needs Study is an essential part of the SEQR process and until it is submitted the application will be on hold. If the Commissioners have substantive disagreements with the report, I suggest they file a memo with the Planning Board laying out their specific concerns.
Let’s get moving.
