”... we’re not the only choice you have in retail stores, but you are our only option in customers.”

Dear Editor,

Of all the things that we may not be certain about, the one thing we can count on is how we all feel about our town Chappaqua.

Being a resident of Chappaqua myself I have the same vested interest in our town that all of you do.  We have great schools, a good amount of delicious and varied restaurants to choose from, a population that pretty much has its thumb on the pulse of Wall Street, but still with all of that we are starting to lose something very important for our community, and that is retail.

Firstly I want to thank all of you for being so supportive of my store. In the six years that Marmalade has been here you have all been so supportive in remembering me when you need a gift for someone, or just a pick me up for yourself and I’ve tried to repay that by always making sure my shelves are full of items that you want and need.

But now I feel compelled to impress on you the fact that the retail sector of our town really needs to be addressed and supported. It has been a decent year in sales but this holiday season will be crucial for all of us. We’ve already seen our beloved toy store close and I know that none of us wants to see that happen to anymore of our stores.

I am asking you on behalf of all the retail establishments in Chappaqua to think of us first when you embark on your holiday shopping. If we don’t have what you were looking for or we didn’t meet your expectations, then please be vocal so we’ll know and can fix it for the next time.

I’d like you to remember two things: We may not be able to fix the economy overall, but we can definitely make a difference within our own town.  Let’s stimulate our own economy and keep our downtown vital and occupied, which will in turn protect our property values and what we have worked so hard to acquire.

Lastly, as merchants we know we’re not the only choice you have in retail stores, but YOU are our only option in customers. We’re counting on you to be there for us as we’re here for you.
