Library board seeks new trustee

Every year a library board trustee finishes his or her five year term and rotates off the board of the Chappaqua Library.

So every year, there is an opportunity for yet another patron to give back to the library by running for the vacant board position. Is this your year to run for Library trustee? Read about Brian Socolaw’s experiences on the library board in this edition, “Library president reflects on his role as a trustee and life-long patron.”

The library is seeking a candidate who is willing to commit to a term of five years, during which time they will serve successively in each of the five board positions, starting as Member-at-Large right through to President of the board.

The library board meets once a month and is responsible for setting library policy and for the fiscal oversight of the library.

Interested applicants must file a nominating petition, signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the school district, at the office of the district clerk no later than April 21, 2008 at 5 p.m. Nominating petitions are available in the library at the Reference Desk and at the District Clerk’s office.  Once the petition has been validated by the district clerk, the candidate’s name will appear on the ballot for the May 20th election.

If elected, the term of the new trustee will begin with the July 2008 meeting of the Library Board of Trustees. If you would like to speak with one of the current trustees about this volunteer position, they will be happy to answer your questions. Brian Socolow, (212) 407-4872; Stan Kurzban, 238-3891; Janet Himel, 238-5230; Evelyn Bloom, 241-0652; and Milan Tyler, (212) 508-0439.

Pam Thornton is the director of the Chappaqua Library.
