+Needs study will be released today, posted for public review
+Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 at Fire Station # 2
The fire commissioners expect to recieve and post the needs study on their website, millwoodfiredistrict.org, today (Friday, July 18). They have scheduled a public meeting for Wednesday, July 23, at Fire Station # 2, 7:30 p.m., at which the consultant can be questioned and public comment offered. The meeting will be filmed and subsequently carried on NCCTV. Click here to find NCCTV’s “video on demand” of fire station meetings; or here to review NCCTV’s schedule of television replays (then click “Schedule” on NCCTV’s top menu bar).
To what extent, if any, the final report will differ from the revised draft currently posted on the Commissioners’ website residents may see for themselves once the revised report is posted, since the draft report is already on the website. Many of the various changes proposed for the draft concerned typographical errors or minor factual misstatements, presumably cleared up in this final report.
Square footage
At 18,382, the square footage of the firehouse in the consultant’s draft report is somewhat smaller than the 19,800 sq. ft. figure cited in the commissioners’ resolution of June 30. Commissioner Fred Scheier and WENT representative Kurt Kleinmann have each said they believe that figure may turn out to be somewhat smaller still, once an architect has reviewed the figures and the program.
Drive-through bays?
Another item likely to be of particular interest are the consultant’s recommendations concerning the cost and safety comparisons for “drive-through” bays and the more traditional “back in” bays, a major point of difference among the commissioners, the firefighters and the community.
