Zoning board grant’s Upper Westchester Muslim Society’s request for adjournment to July 27

The Upper Westchester Muslim Society asked the zoning board of appeals to give its consultants more time to respond to criticisms of the UWMS’s draft environmental impact statement as “incomplete.”  The Society’s consultants were to have met with the town’s consultants in the two weeks following its last meeting of April 20 [see “Zoning Board hears preliminary report on DEIS prepared for proposed mosque in West End,” NCNOW.org, April 29, 2011], to both respond to the town consultants’ comments on the DEIS and to seek clarification on some subjects.  The zoning board’s counsel Lynn Weinig informed board members that the Society had been unable to meet during that time and had requested an adjournment until the zoning board’s next meeting, on Wednesday, July 27.

Weinig advised the zoning board to attach two conditions to the Society’s appearance on July 27:  that the Society reimburse the town for any outstanding invoices connected to the application, and that two escrow accounts—one for NY State environmental review, the other for special use permits—be replenished by that time.  To a zoning board member who asked whether the invoices were overdue, Weinig responded that she was not sure whether the town had yet billed the applicant. And, she added “only yesterday did we inform the applicant that the escrow accounts needed replenishing.”

The zoning board granted the request for adjournment to Wednesday, July 27.
