It’s that time of year again: The frost is on the pumpkin, Chappaqua looks picture perfect in its fall finery, and one of the most highly anticipated antique shows in the Northeast, the Chappaqua Antiques Show is this weekend, November 6 and 7, 2010, at Westorchard Elementary School.
Over 50 top dealers from the region and beyond will offer a wide array of unique items from a broad spectrum of time periods and geographic areas. This year, with the show’s emphasis on home design, we will offer free mini-consultations with interior design and space planning experts. Raffle prizes as well as gourmet delights provided by Fancy Nancy’s Café in addition to a table overflowing with mouth-watering homemade desserts will make this annual event, now in its 43rd year, a hit with guests of all ages, interests and budgets.
Sponsored by the New Castle Historical Society, the show raises important funds to support the Horace Greeley House Museum and its rich calendar of educational activities for school groups and community members. Event co-chairs Betsy Guardenier, Lois Dannecker, Susan Blumenfeld and Tess Cerra, and a dedicated team of 150 volunteers will host the Society’s most important event of the year. Our honorary chairperson for the show is celebrity chef and cookbook author Sandra Lee who teaches us how to entertain at home with simplicity and style.
Homes as havens
“More than ever, our homes are havens for relaxation and a more home-centered lifestyle,” suggested Guardenier. “Our honorary chair Sandra Lee brings this idea to life in her TV programs and books. The Chappaqua Antiques Show is a place to find the best for our homes and ourselves. With its varied assortment of antiques, including jewelry, rugs, prints, kitchenware and furniture, our show has truly something for everyone at every price point. And now, with our emphasis on home design, shoppers will find unique treasures and inspired ideas on how to make them work in their homes.”
Interior designer and New Castle resident Carol Gladstone of Gladstone Consulting, as well as interior space planner and custom cabinetry expert Jason Landau of Amazing Spaces in Briarcliff Manor will be available for mini-consultations. Other experts will be on hand to discuss upholstery, window treatments, lighting and much more.
We know that guests will get excited about our raffle prizes generously supplied by Chappaqua’s finest merchants including: Crabtree Kittle House, Desires by Mikolay, Susan Lawrence Catering, Inc., Family Britches, Petticoat Lane, Chappaqua Framing, Emmary Day Spa, Hilltop Wines & Spirits, Squires Family Clothing & Footwear, Whispering Pines and Houlihan Lawrence.
The popular Gold In Your Attic booth features numerous treasures donated or consigned by New Castle residents and others to benefit the Historical Society. Attendees love exploring these tables for unique pieces for their homes.
This event is a favorite in the region and in previous years has welcomed as honorary chairs President Bill Clinton, actress Vanessa Williams, and singer-songwriter Dar Williams. Mark your calendars; you don’t want to miss it! Visit our website at http://www.newcastlehs.org/.

If I partake in getting an appraisal this year from the resident antique expert, will I ever get the paperwork for it? Last year I did not despite repeatedly asking the appraiser for it.
Editor’s Note: According to the Historical Society, the appraisals offered at the Antique Show are verbal-only.
