From the Millwood Board of Fire Commissioners

Dear Volunteers of Millwood Fire Company #1,

On behalf of everyone in the Millwood Fire District, the Millwood Board of Fire Commissioners would like to thank you for your professional response protecting our community during Hurricane Irene.

We know that Irene set records for the department – 32 emergency calls within 24 hours. These emergencies included numerous trees on houses, live electrical wires down and burning, assistance at the Croton water rescue scene as well as a possible explosion in Croton.

We thank you for manning both firehouses – three crews at Station #1 and one crew at Station #2.  We thank the firematic officers (3 chiefs, 1 captain and 3 lieutenants) for making themselves available to manage the incidents.  We thank the Ladies Auxiliary for supporting the emergency efforts with food, beverage and understanding.

What many residents may not be aware of is the time spent in pre-planning to ensure readiness for Irene. These efforts included equipment checks and manpower scheduling on Thursday and incident management strategy on Saturday. In addition, a seasoned firefighter was stationed at the Town’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during the storm along with New Castle Police, EMS and the Chappaqua Fire Department.

We are grateful for your dedication of time and continued commitment to protecting lives and property in the Millwood Fire District.

Thank you for your extraordinary efforts on behalf of the Millwood Fire District residents and businesses during Hurricane Irene.

Millwood Board of Fire Commissioners
Hala Makowska, Angelo Indusi, Tony Olenik, Alan Schapiro and Dan Puszka

A heartfelt Thank You to the Millwood Fire Department for helping me pump out my basement on Sunday.  You saved my furnace, water heater, washer and dryer from major water damage.  I called the fire department on Sunday and they came out immediately to help.  I had over 20 inches of water in my basement.  Thanks guys!  Your dedication to our community is truly appreciated.
