Capturing Irene’s after-effects

In the aftermath of the hurricane Irene, I strolled along our street and then ventured around the Town to experience firsthand the effects of the hurricane in our community. The photos you see cover the range of these effects, from the seriously dangerous to the hilarious, from the awe-inspiring to the quaint. While a hurricane is nothing the laugh about, couldn’t help but smile at (and photograph) the joyful Chappaquans, young and old alike, finding solace while splashing through the flooded Quaker Road off Duck Pond.
Chatschik Bisdikian, a computer scientist with IBM Research, is a 10+ year resident of Chappaqua. He has been taking photographs (for the fun of it) on-and-off for over 35 years and, or rare occasions, he can be seen (and heard) beating the drums at local music jam events (with photo and video cameras in tow, of course).

Wonderful pictures - capturing the event and the response! The New Castle Historical Society would love to have some of these photos for our collection, which includes photos of Chappaqua floods of 1955, 1976, and 1998.
Dear Nancy, thank you for your kind words. I would gladly share some of these pictures with the New Castle Historical Society.
