Time to get ready for the New Castle Community Sing! The Chappaqua Orchestra invites you to spend the day browsing the local shops for holiday delights, then head over to the Bell Middle School Auditorium for a short concert of sing-a-long holiday favorites, followed by the New Castle Historical Society’s Holiday Tree Lighting. Goodies will be provided by the New Castle Teen Alliance, Santa will be available to hear holiday wishes, and the weather will be beautiful (with maybe just a little bit of light snow to set the mood).
Since this will be the fourth annual Community Sing, you probably know what to expect. But, as usual, some great surprises have been planned. First of all, if you’ve had trouble following a few of the musical arrangements, this year singing along will be a lot easier. While Michael Shapiro conducts the orchestra, choral conductor Ken Farnum will be on hand to direct the chorus (that would be you).
In addition to local favorites, the Chappaqua Singers and the Greeley Madrigal Choir, Soprano Elizabeth Farnum will be the featured performer for O, Holy Night. Ms Farnum has appeared at venues such as Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, London’s Institute for Contemporary Art, the American Academy at Rome, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Clarinetist Eric Drucker will provide some lively Klezmer music, and for the very first time, the Antioch Baptist Church Choir will join The Chappaqua Orchestra in gospel versions of Silent Night and Jesus, What a Wonderful Child.
So whether you’re looking for an event to get into the holiday spirit, you like to sing, or you just want to listen to music, Bell School is the place for you on Saturday, December 3rd at 3:30 pm. The concert is FREE. Come early to get a seat, or stop by late to catch a few songs before the Tree Lighting. All are welcome.
