Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

In preparation for Memorial Day, 40 Girl Scouts came to ready Memorial Circle at the Chappaqua Train Station.

Daisy Scouts, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes - along with leaders, parents, brothers and sisters - dug their hands into the dirt on Wednesday, May 25, to place many flats of white petunias and red begonias in the garden.  Even the youngest sibling, age 3, got right to work, but she noticed that there were no blue flowers.  No worries – soon the perennial salvia will bloom and the red-white-and blue pattern will be complete!

Many girls stopped to read the monument in the sun as they planted.  Many of the same girls will join their fellow Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school marching bands and community members as they march to Memorial Circle on Monday.  We hope that the community joins the Girl Scouts on at the parade and memorial ceremony as we honor our soldiers.

Thanks to the Parks Dept. which will keep the flowers watered and vibrant this summer. We also thank Joe Kajak, Jr. and Green Valley Nursery for the discounted flowers!
