CANCELED TODAY; THE JAN. 18 EVENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED.

The New Castle Historical Society continues its popular annual Antiques Lecture and Appraisal Series today, Tuesday,  January 18 and on February 1 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the theatre at the Chappaqua Library. Always an exciting event, the series provides the unique opportunity to have possible antique treasures appraised by top experts in their respective fields.

During each of the morning sessions, a specialist will lead a discussion on their field of expertise and then offer verbal on-the-spot free appraisals of items brought by members of the audience. The limit is two items per person.  In past years, participants have been delighted to discover the historical or monetary significance of their suspected treasures.

Tuesday, January 18:  Costumes, Vintage Clothing and Textiles

Mimi Sherman is a curatorial consultant who will speak about the history of costumes, vintage clothing and textiles. Ms. Sherman has a Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies, Costume and Textiles from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Tuesday, February 1:  Early American Glass

Ian Simmonds will lead a discussion about American glass from the mid-18th century to the Civil War.  Mr. Simmonds is a leading researcher and dealer in early American glass and has published several articles about this subject.  His website is www.iansimmonds.com.
