In memoriam, Marjorie Coldwell Hale

Mrs. Marjorie Coldwell Hale, 84, formerly of Chappaqua, New York, beloved wife of L. Gordon Hale, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts, surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Maybelle M. (Johnson) Coldwell. She attended Durfee High School in Fall River and graduated from Northfield-Mount Hermon Academy in Mount Hermon, Massachusetts. Mrs. Hale continued her education at Duke University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree as a member of the class of 1948, and a Master’s Degree in psychology and childhood education from Manhattanville College. She was a fraternal member of both Kappa Alpha Theta and Phi Beta Kappa societies. Her husband was also a Duke graduate, class of 1946, and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Mrs. Hale spent many years tutoring challenged children in the Chappaqua, New York area and gained much joy from helping her students achieve their goals.

A resident of Chappaqua, New York, since 1952 prior to moving to Wenham, Massachusetts in 2010, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Chappaqua and an alumni member of their Bell Choir. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished cook, knitter and seamstress. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, with whom she shared sixty-two years of marriage, she is survived by three daughters, Christin Hale of Vermont, Jody Hale Norton of Beverly, Massachusetts, Libby Hale Reid of Maryland and one son, Greg Hale of New York City, New York; seven grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Joanne, Jeffrey, Tyler, Alexandra and Jack; and a sister-in-law, Maria Coldwell of Brookline, Massachusetts. She was also the sister of the late Jack Coldwell.
