Construction will begin within the next two weeks on conversion of the “Y” intersection at Routes 120 and 133 (Quaker Street and Millwood Road) to a “T” intersection with a traffic light.

In a July 12, 2010 letter to Dianne Kleinmann, Chairwoman of the Millwood Task Force, New York State Department of Transportation Project Design Manager Douglas Cotton, stated that for most of the construction period traffic will be maintained at the intersection using temporary lane and shoulder closures.

For the first week, traffic flow will be constricted at the intersection while the contractor excavates the existing grass and constructs the new pavement in the center of the triangle-island.  Once the new pavement is constructed there, traffic will run according to the new “T” intersection while the remainder of construction is completed.  DOT hopes to finish the project by end of November 2010.

Editor’s Note: In response to a comment submitted by a reader this morning, NCNOW has updated this article to include the fact that the DOT plans to install a traffic light at the new “T” intersection.  Although in planning stages the DOT considered using “STOP” signs at the intersection, they settled on a traffic light as a superior solution for the intersection.  Click HERE to read about the planning stages, in a piece from NCNOW’s archives.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a traffic light?  Article does not say.
