I noticed that Will Korth—whose painting company sponsors town-wide activities such last spring’s town “Fishing Derby”—has offered an interesting gift idea for the holidays.  I asked him to tell me more about the offer and about his company.

How long has your company been in business and a member of our community?

I grew up on Rose Lane in Chappaqua. Our Business also “grew up ” here. We have been painting in Chappaqua since 1979. Wow, that’s over 30 years, which makes me feel old. I started with the company in 1980 when I was 15 years old. We started as students but have stayed at it to build a pretty significant operation. We employ 30 people full time. It’s really important to me that Korth and Shannahan continues to be a great place to work. We are fortunate to work in one of the best painting markets in the country.

What’s been the key to your success?

Painting can be difficult and dirty but it really valuable and honest work.  We treat everyone on our team with a lot or respect and I know that’s been the key building block for our business. That respect and pride comes back to our customers in the kind of work we produce and the way we conduct ourselves all over New Castle.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt that all work is fully guaranteed for a minimum period of four (4) years.

I once heard a general contractor say that New Castle residents are proud of their families and their homes, do you agree with that statement?

Chappaqua resident’s take a ton of pride in their homes and we’ve been able to develop our business around that. Our customers want things done right and they want things to last. They are willing to pay a fair price for something valuable. We have tried to develop a reputation as the guys you call when you want something done really well. We have added a number of carpentry services over the last ten years so we can have a better control on projects for our clients. We employ four really talented young carpenters.  They do excellent work.  I have found Chappaqua residents to be honest and if you give good service, which we try our very best to do, they are a loyal group. I decided a long time ago that I wanted to be able to walk through town and never have to switch to the other side of the street to avoid an unhappy customer.  Life is too short for that.  And, yes, they are proud of their families, as they should be.

I know you have a holiday gift promotion right now offering gift certificates to paint a room.  That’s a very original idea.  Is this something you’ve done before?

We’ve done it for the past few years.  We are running a number of winter promotions to try to keep all our painters and carpenters working all winter. The winter is always the quiet season in our business because we can’t paint outside. We have no problem working at a significant discount on interior winter projects in order to not have to lay off our staff.  Most of our men have families and really count on that paycheck every Friday.

Your web site is very impressive – have you always such a progressive approach to business?

We’ve had the web site for five years, and it’s a great resource for potential customers as well as existing clients customers.  We have a Portfolio Gallery and Testimonials from our clients.  We also have frequently asked questions, and provide a list of reputable contractors for projects other than painting and carpentry.  We also have a blog to stay in touch with the community.  Our web site is www.korthpainting.com

Any special discounts for NewCastleNOW readers who mention this article?

We are running a 15% off promotion for winter interiors signed before the end of the year.  We also are running a “Painter for a Day” offer—for $360 labor and materials in January. This is a great way for customers to get a lot of smaller projects (painting or carpentry) knocked off in the winter and not have to break the bank. It’s a really great program for both the customers and for our painters and carpenters. That’s an amazing value to have a trained professional work at your house all day.
