Letter to the Editor: Castelli backs New Castle Republican slate

November 4, 2011
by Steve Schoenfeld

Team New Castle Supervisor candidate Robert Kirkwood and Town Council candidate Rich Diefenbach today landed one of their biggest endorsements to date, when it was announced they had garnered the support of New Castle’s State Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli.

Castelli has earned a reputation as a bipartisan reformer, who has been an independent voice in the Legislature, especially on tax policies that he says unfairly penalize Westchester County residents and business owners. “I am proud to support the effort of Team New Castle in the belief that they will provide the type of common sense leadership that is fair, impartial, and bipartisan, which I believe is the key to successful government,” he said.

“These men have considerable experience in the business and legal world, as well as our community, and I believe will serve the town of New Castle in an exemplary fashion, if elected,” Castelli said.

“Bob Castelli is one of the most dedicated and hardest working public servants I have had the privilege to meet,” Kirkwood said. “We are honored to have earned his endorsement.”

The Team New Castle candidates have impressed local observers by running a strong race, the first competitive local election for New Castle in years. The candidates say they have set forth a platform of that includes planning the future with a modern comprehensive master plan; equal focus on all hamlets; streamlining town government for the 21st century; transparent, open, accessible, pragmatic problem solving; and compromise based on public input, where every resident’s voice matters.

“Bob Castelli is an incredible legislator of high integrity,” Diefenbach said. “It is his dedication and level of commitment which sets him apart from career politicians. It’s all about being pro-active and taking action to be an effective public servant. I am honored Mr. Castelli has endorsed our team and if elected, I will serve the residents of New Castle with tireless energy and respect.”

The Republicans biggest endorsement to date is from another Republican.  It would be funny, if not sad.  Nice try.  The Republicans blew this election.  Instead of running on a platform of healthy change they decided to distort the facts re: sewers, Chappaqua Crossing & the ward system.  They resorted to language such “second class citizens”, ‘taxation without representation’—a little revolution now and again is maybe not a bad thing.” and then denied saying it.  The video doesn’t lie.  These tactics might work on a national level but won’t work in New Castle.

Dems no better.  Hopefully whoever gets in takes this as a wake-up call.  Pretty evident to me that the whole town is disappointed in business as usual.
