I wanted to meet the woman who had served in the Israeli army, went to Columbia University and has had a store in Chappaqua for 35 years.

How long has your store been a member of our community?

We opened in 1976.  That’s over 35 years in Chappaqua!  I also live in Chappaqua.

Have you always been involved in the jewelry business?

Yes, I come from a family entrenched in the jewelry business.  My father was a prominent diamond merchant in Israel.  After serving in the Israeli army, I came to America to attend Columbia University, and then began my career as a jeweler importing and selling at the wholesale level.

Tell me about your motto, “Timeless Elegance in Fine Jewelry.”

Timeless Elegance is jewelry which is classic and chic.  It will be in fashion for a long time, like a Chanel bag.  I believe that fashion jewelry can be trendy.  It’s very rewarding when fine jewelry keeps a classic look for many generations to come.

Do you still import much of your inventory?

Yes, I travel the world in search of unique treasures.  We have an enchanting collection of fine jewelry from international designers.

Do you also create custom pieces?

Yes.  We offer an array of unique and unparalleled custom services.  We have designed one-of-a-kind pieces exclusive to ICD.  You can see some of our custom creations on our web site www.ICDJewelry.com

Tell me about some of your famous clientele.

All our clients are special.  Some of our more famous clients are Vanessa Williams, Kim Van Gundy, President Bill Clinton, and Secretary of State Hillary.

Tell me about how you transform a collection of jewelry languishing in a jewelry box into contemporary pieces.

We’ll update your jewelry wardrobe by turning your necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings into a stunning work of art.  Whether it’s a cherished antique that needs updating, or a newer piece that lacks distinction, we’ll create a fresh, exciting design just for you.  I recently visited a customer in her home.  She spilled all her jewelry onto a long table.  I began sifting, sorting and making piles. I decided to combine a small simple diamond hoop earring with an art deco diamond with a pearl pin to create hanging earrings.  I cut the pin in half and attached the halves to the hoop.  I combined different strands and pearls to create a smashing significant bracelet.  I took an outdated bracelet and created three pair of precious earrings for her granddaughters.  We pride ourselves in our expertise and sense of style to enhance your collection.

What would you recommend to make our downtown hamlets more vibrant?

I think we are heading in the right direction.  The town has a different feel to it.  Residents are making an effort to Shop Local!
