Last Thursday night, July 15, the New Castle Recreation Commission promised a prompt answer as to whether the newly formed New Castle Youth Football Association (NCYFA) would be approved to run the youth football program in New Castle. (See “Rec Commission promises prompt answer on new parent-run youth football program,” July 16, 2010.)  And prompt they were.

The next morning, July 16, James Nottingham, president of the newly-formed NCYFA, received a phone call from Bob Snyder and Wayne Bass of the New Castle Recreation and Parks Department informing him that the Recreation Commission had approved the application of the parent-run NCYFA to operate the youth football program.

“The approval is for one year, as was done for the travel basketball program when it began,” reported Nottingham, “and will be evaluated at the end of the season for future operations. We should be sanctioned at that time on a permanent basis moving forward.”
