This year, with Recreational Therapist Erica Schack of the Brooklyn VA hospital, Bob Coulombe has put together a wish list for vets at hospitals in Ft. Hamilton, Brooklyn and the Bronx, all more in need than ever. Coulombe is looking for items ranging from sports equipment to art supplies and pictures for walls. See the vets’ full wish list in “Read more…”
Two years ago, Bob Coulombe mounted a campaign to get used musical instruments from New Castle residents into the hands of veterans in the Bronx VA hospital. At the time, he netted two guitars, a trombone and a fiddle—and free lessons to go-with. This year, he’s hoping to receive needed equipment of all kinds. The drop-off point was the Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce table at the Chappaqua Farmers Market last Saturday; this coming Saturday, June 9, he’s collecting again—at the Chappaqua Farmers Market located for this Saturday only on the front lawn of town hall (to make room for the Strawberry Festival).
In the meantime, for unwieldy items, contact Coulombe directly, at 914-747-4322 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and he’ll arrange for pick up.
How did Bob do last Saturday?
“So far,” says Coulombe, “a TV, a ping pong table, a foosball game, a hockey game, several art work kits, five framed pictures, a dozen basketball and soccer balls, a Nordic Track, six afghans, a set of weights, a couple dozen CDs and DVDs, a box of Christmas ornaments, two kits to make wallets—and counting. Quite remarkable I think. Oh, yes, and a number of thank you’s, several handshakes and one hug.”
