The skate park has been rolled into place at the Washington Avenue end of the commuter parking lot at the Chappaqua train station. Live bands, a DJ and a skate demo by “2nd Nature” are planned for an opening day celebration this Saturday, May 31, from 12:30 p.m. till 2:30 p.m.  See photos of the park in “Read more.”

Skating is free for all this Saturday, and protective gear—helmet, elbow and knee pads—is required. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver available that day at the skate park. No one under 5 years old is allowed to use the skateboard park; ten and under must be accompanied by an adult.

New Castle CARES, a coalition of school personnel, parents, kids, police and the parks and recreation department, is the brains and heart of the operation, responsible for pressing town government over the years to supply the needed funds (the town of Pleasantville contributes funds toward it as well) and to get the park built. New Castle CARES continues to research additional mini-ramp structures that might be added to strengthen the park’s drawing power.

For the next month, skate park hours are:

Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.; Fridays, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

These change to summer hours beginning June 25, 2008:

Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday through Friday 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Daily admission: $5 for residents; $7 for non-residents;

Season pass: $75 for residents; $95 for non-residents.
