Orchestral music’s place in the world is not what it was in Beethoven’s time. It’s not even what it was in 1959. This Sunday, May 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Horace Greeley High School auditorium, take a trip through fifty years of local history and hear the first pieces ever played by the The Chappaqua Orchestra: Debussy’s Dances for Harp and String Orchestra, Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro, and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll. Harpist Emily Mitchell will be the featured soloist.

Then travel to the present, via Dvorák’s New World Symphony, and finish with an exciting world premiere as we ponder the question, “What next?” with Roller Coaster by The Chappaqua Orchestra’s own conductor Michael Shapiro.

Chappaqua Orchestra archives and memorabilia will be available for browsing. Historic photos and orchestra history will be part of the concert experience. Come celebrate with us! This concert is dedicated to the memory of The Chappaqua Orchestra’s founding board member David E. Nierenberg, 1918-2008.

Tickets are $20 for adults; students under 18 or with a student ID are free. For additional information, call 914-921-4642 or go to chappaquaorchestra.org. All seats are general admission. The concert is at the Horace Greeley High School auditorium located at 70 Roaring Brook Road, Chappaqua, New York.
