Chappaqua Merchants pull out all the stops for Sidewalk Sale Days, July 22-24

July 23, 2010
by Susie Pender

As they say, it’s always darkest just before the dawn, and Wednesday, the eve of New Castle’s Sidewalk Sale Days, was certainly a poster child for that old adage. The evening brought raging storms, blustering winds, and some residential power outages. But Thursday morning dawned cool (finally!) and sunny, a perfect kickoff to three days of sidewalks overflowing with plentiful offerings. So grab a latte or a cool frappacino and stroll the streets today and tomorrow, July 23 and 24. Our merchants have, indeed, pulled out all the stops. Below is a sampling of what’s in store for clever shoppers in no particular order.

Desires by Mikolay

Tara and Scott will start their sale with a preview on Wednesday for devoted customers. Then on Thursday, their signature tent will go up and everything displayed on the sidewalk will be up to 50% off. Everything in the store will be 15% off. And, as usual, they will offer some refreshment under the tent for weary shoppers who need a cool pick-me-up.

Marmalade

Cindy Lupica already has all her rugs on sale for 25% off until the end of July. For the Sidewalk Sale, she will be putting all Melissa & Doug educational toys on sale for 25% off as well. Stop by her sidewalk display to find substantial markdowns on some surprise items (shh! Still secret!)

Auntie Penny

Eve and Linda will make it easy for even the children to figure out how much they are saving on their favorite toys, candy, jewelry and games. They will be offering 10% off every purchase during the three days of the Sidewalk Sale

Petticoat Lane and Bag Shop

Phyllis Jacobson is happy to report that she survived her move from 1 King Street to 66 King Street, and her customers have had no trouble finding her in the new location. Since it’s a Summer Sidewalk Sale, it seems only appropriate that she has put all of her summer bags on sale at 40% off, as well as all her Longchamp bags. Many other items will be 50-70% off.

Eye Gallery

Jay and Michael Rosen, resident optometrists and owners of Eye Gallery, are cleaning house so chic shoppers can clean up. They will be offering frames on sale for $50, $100, $150 and $200. Depending on the frame, these prices are 20% to 75% off their original prices. Customers can pick out a frame from the sidewalk display and bring it into the store to order regular eyeglasses or sunglasses.

Great Stuff

Great Stuff already has great stuff on sale for 50% off inside the store, since they are in the midst of their regular summer sale. But for the Sidewalk Sale, they will place different merchandise outside – sports wear, t-shirts, dresses – including manufacturers Joe’s, White &Warren and 3 Dot.

Chappaqua Framing

What to do? What to do, with that blank wall that cries out for cover? Chappaqua Framing has the largest collection in Westchester of original cover art from The New Yorker – some dating back to the 1920s – Vogue and Vanity Fair, including artwork by Salvador Dali and Erte. These rare covers will be 15% off during the Sidewalk Sale Days.

Squires

Cash in at Squires starting now! They have already set aside Sidewalk Sale merchandise in the store at 50-70% off. They are offering brand-name footwear for men, women and children, including Nike, Merrell, New Balance, Adidas and Asics. Clothing on sale includes North Face, Tommy Bahama and Christopher Blue as well as many other manufacturers. Cash only for Sidewalk Sale merchandise.

ICD Jewelry

Get started early on your Sidewalk Sale shopping at ICD Jewelry. Starting today, their fabulous Summer Sale begins and continues until mid-August. Everything, yep, you read that right, EVERYTHING on display in the store is 50% off.

Chappaqua Wines & Spirits

Chappaqua Wines & Spirits always has something on sale. For the Sidewalk Sale Days, they will be introducing a new winery, Rockbrook, from Sonoma, California. They are stocked with Rockbrook’s 2008 Chardonnay, 2008 Sauvignon Blanc and 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, all at $10.99, on sale from $13.99. They are also offering a 2008 red Bordeaux, Chateau Saint-Sauveur Duplessif for $13.99, down from $16.00. And for something cool and crisp, they are well stocked with an Italian Pinot Grigio, 2009 Rocca Bianca, for $10.99, $2.00 of its regular price.

Rhodadendron

Rhoda Lewis-Gennarelli knows what makes her customers happy and she’s giving it to them: her entire store – scarves, clothes and jewelry – will be 50-70% off during the Sidewalk Sale Days. That giant discount only excludes gift items – mugs, coin purses, candles and the like – which will only be 30% off. She is opening her third Rhodadendron in Scarsdale at the end of August.

Family Britches

Being well dressed about town just got cheaper. Barry Mishkin of Family Britches will be offering many men’s designers, including Zegna, Faconnable, Tommy Bahama, Peter Millar and Canali, at 30-50% off during the Sidewalk Sale Days on his outdoor racks. Ladies, look for the same deal on MaxMara, Rene Lezard and Missoni.

Always the Children

Had your eye on that desk in the window for a while? Well, now’s your chance. Most floor samples will be on sale at Always the Children during the Sidewalk Sale Days, as well as numerous other items including clothing, linens and lighting.

NEW: Kent (at the top of King Street)

Michael Kalesti, owner of newcomer-to-town, Kent, at the top of King Street, during the Sidewalk Sale will be offering 40%-60% off spring and summer items, including tabletop linens, place mats, kitchen linens, terra cotta pots, candles and assorted vintage objects.

NEW: Indigo

During the Sidewalk Sale Days, Carole from Indigo will be offering selected summer merchandise at 25%-30% off.

NEW: Gail Patrick’s Cafe

Gail Patrick’s staff are ready Italian ices and fresh popcorn for shoppers, as well as discounted retail items.
