There will be a Freshmen/JV Football meeting for all students interested in playing football next season. This informational meeting is being held today, Monday, June 14th at 4:00 p.m. in the Physical Education Classroom of the Horace Greeley Gymnasium, straight down the hall from the main entrance, and will be clearly marked for those who don’t know the high school landscape just yet.
The goal of this meeting is to get an idea of how many students are planning to play competitive football in the fall, and to give those attending an idea of what to expect and how to prepare for the upcoming season. Even if you’re not sure whether you want to play, I encourage you to come.
Incoming freshman should know that playing a sport in your first year at Horace Greeley High School is not only fun, but it is a great way to meet new people and make friends. In addition, you become a part of the Greeley Football Family that includes all players from the Varsity level down to the freshman team.
Current 9th grade students who will be sophomores next year and played this past fall already know the value and fun of playing football. Come to let us know that you’re planning to play again in the fall and to help out by talking to newcomers. Any students who didn’t play last season or had their season cut short should come to the meeting, too.
The meeting should last about thirty minutes and is designed to be an informational meeting for players, but parents are welcome to sit in. We’ll talk about the typical daily schedule and when the first day of practices will be held. We’ll also review what we expect from players when they sign up, and what players can expect from participating in the program.
Football is a “no cut sport” at Horace Greeley so everyone that comes out is placed on a team. Mark your calendars and come next Monday. I look forward to meeting all the new players and catching up with all who played before.
A sign-up sheet will be circulated at the meeting which we’ll use to communicate with players over the summer months. Don’t miss this meeting and be left out of the loop.
