(Girls U12) Chappaqua Tigers place second in East Fishkill Tournament
The Chappaqua Tigers did themselves proud with a hard fought second place finish in the East Fishkill Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, May 25.
The Tigers started strong against an over-matched Beekman team, winning 7-0 going away.
The second game was a completely different story. The Tigers played an excellent team from West Babylon, Long Island. The Tigers took some time to adjust to the new level of competition and found themselves down 1 - 0 in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, the second half the Tigers recharged and upped their level of play netting a goal early in the half. Both teams fought hard in a very evenly played second half. The Tigers had numerous good chances including hitting the post, but failed to get the go-ahead goal. That would come back to haunt them as West Babylon scored the game winner late in the second half. The Tigers played well and deserved better but lost to a very good team.
In the final game of the day, the Tigers held off Somers in another fight to the finish. The Tigers had to dig deep to keep up their energy and confidence against an old rival from the East Hudson League. The Tigers were the better team most of the game and the score line showed that in the end. Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first half and held on for the 1-0 win despite a strong late charge by Somers. It was a well deserved second place finish for the Tigers.

(Boys U11) Chappaqua Eagles reach NYS Challenge Cup Semifinals

The Chappaqua Eagles enjoyed an exciting run to the New York State Challenge Cup semifinals where they were edged out by a well-trained Huntington Long Island team, 2 - 0. The Challenge Cup Tournament started in September 2007 and teams from eastern New York have played single-elimination games all year leading up to the June 7th final game.

The Eagles engaged in a hard-fought defensive struggle and the game with Huntington was tied 0 - 0 at halftime. With a berth in the finals at stake, parents’ nerves were on edge on both sidelines. With 15 minutes left to play, Huntington struck first on a corner kick set play that Chappaqua defenders were unable to clear. The Huntington team was able to ward off a final flurry from Chappaqua, and toward the end sealed the victory with a second goal.

After the game, Huntington congratulated Chappaqua on being the first team all year that was able to compete with them. The Eagles’ keeper, Jack Reiss, had a remarkable game in goal making a number of stunning saves. Stalwart defenders, Ben Goldenberg, Charlie Levitz, John Goodnough and Cole Findling, anchored a solid defense and worked incredibly hard. Alex Scheine displayed great energy in marking Huntington’s best players. Woody Grob, Paul Gadaleta, Luke Cohen, Zach Schoenfeld and Alex Wiseman continued to control the midfield for the Eagles as they have done all season. Forwards Eddie Chaves, Jack Dowd and Randy Ginsburg were strong up front.

Congratulations to the Eagles, who bested competition from Levittown (Long Island), Bedford and Clarkstown, en route to the exciting semifinals.
Chappaqua Eagles take first place at Scarsdale Tournament
The U11 Chappaqua Eagles repeated as champions at the Scarsdale Memorial
Day Tournament this year. The Eagles had to endure four incredibly exciting games
to achieve the final victory.

In Game 1, Chappaqua got a late goal on a penalty kick from striker Eddie Chaves to overtake Scarsdale 2 - 1.  Jason Re played strong defense to keep the Eagles in the game.

In Game 2, Chappaqua scored three goals in the final three minutes, including a hat trick from Alex Wiseman, to overtake a stunned Mount Vernon team, 4 - 3.  With 10
seconds left in the game, Paul Gadaleta dribbled half the length of the field around all Mount Vernon defenders only to have his shot deflected by the opposing goalie who made a remarkable diving save. But Alex Wiseman followed the play and popped in the game winner just as the final whistle blew.

In Game 3, the story was Eddie Chaves, who coolly put in three goals on penalty kicks against a well-coached Wilton, Connecticut team. Scott Silver created a lot of offense and ball movement for the Eagles. Chappaqua met their old nemesis and higher-division team, Riverdale Lightning, in the championship game. The Eagles beat Riverdale to earn first place last year as well.

The Eagles played strong and smart, needing only a draw to earn the trophy. Jack Reiss played a great game in goal making acrobatic saves, and Charlie Levitz, Alex Scheine and Luke Cohen anchored the defense as Riverdale desperately tried to score. But the Eagles earned the 0 - 0 tie and were awarded the championship based on their undefeated record.

Congratulations to the Eagles.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Dinamo finish second at Scarsdale Tournament

The Dinamo came in second place in the Scarsdale Memorial Day Tournament. It was a great effort by all.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Rockets finish first at East Fishkill Tournament

The Chappaqua Rockets participated in the annual East Fishkill Memorial Day

Tournament last Sunday and finished first in their U11 bracket. The three victories featured sharp passing, improved trapping, aggressive defense and balanced scoring, with nine different Rockets scoring in a 12-3 total goal differential.

In game 1, the Rockets defeated a solid Blue Fusion team from Queens, 3-0. The Blue Fusion threatened at various points throughout the game, but the Rocket defense held firm. Rockets goals came from Alessandra Giannasca, Bryn Weiner and Dana Weinberg, a chest goal off a corner kick.

Game 2 featured the most exciting contest of the tournament with the Rockets facing the XFire from Bethpage/Plainview, Long Island. The Rockets jumped to a 2-0 lead on great through balls from the central midfielders, but XFire equalized at 2 - 2. The Rockets were not done, opening up a 2 goal lead again at 4 - 2, only to see the lead shrink to 4 - 3. XFire threatened to tie during the remaining minutes of the game with the momentum in their favor. The Rockets showed a lot of character and mustered every ounce of energy in fending off a ferocious team that was trying valiantly to equalize. Chappaqua Rocket goals were by Molly Gonzalez, Alessandra Giannasca, Morgan Spiegel and Arielle Smith, the Rockets’ first header for a goal, this one coming off of a corner kick by Molly Gonzalez.

The last game pitted the Rockets against the Larchmont Blue Leopards, a team that historically has played the Rockets tough. This game was no exception, with the score 0 - 0, and the Rockets playing lethargic defense, until the waning moments of the first half when Courtney Kerester netted a goal. The Rockets came out for the second half with renewed vigor and tallied another three goals by Allegra Kahn, Molly Gonzalez and Bella Ardizzone against a fading Larchmont squad.

(U10 Girls)  Mustangs Play Well at Scarsdale Memorial Day Tournament

The girls played very well, dominating in the first two games. There was a lot of passing and goal scoring. In the third and fourth games they continued to play as a team, but unfortunately were not able to beat their opponents. They ended up in third place.
