(Boys High School) Chappaqua Gunners 3 - Pelham United 1

The Chappaqua Gunners came back from a 0-1 halftime deficit to defeat Pelham United 3-1. Connor Myers opened up the scoring for the Gunners in the 60th minute from a cross from Jake Silver. In the 67th minute, Myers returned the favor with an excellent cross to Silver and he scored what proved to be the game winner. Gabe Weissmann scored the third for the Gunners in the 80th minute on a crossing ball from James Whalen. It was the “Tale of Two Halves” as the Gunners completely changed the game around from the first to the second half to come away with the victory. The Gunners are back in action next Sunday, June 8, at Eastchester at 12:45 p.m.

(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Jaguars 3 - Manhattan Storm 0

This afternoon at Upper Gedney in a G13-2 contest, the Chappaqua Jaguars dominated the Manhattan Storm 3 - 0. Two Jaguar goals were scored by Olivia Kerester and one by Sarah Zandi. Olivia’s first goal was off a header, and Sarah’s goal was a bullet of a shot coming off a half-field breakaway.

The Jaguar defense, led by Julie Shanus, Molly Olonoff, Marika Nadel-Lamotta, Samantha Singer and Nikky Levy was tenacious. In the goal Jamie Baum and Lindsey Hill stopped everything coming their way. The remainder of the team played great, and overall it was a strong team effort.

(U11 Boys) Chappaqua Rovers 2 - Rye Brook Arsenal 0

The Rovers beat the Rye Brook Arsenal 2 - 0. Once again the Rovers came out strong to start the match but despite having several scoring opportunities, they went into halftime tied 0 - 0. When play resumed the Rovers kept up the pressure until Ben Taub sent Matt Altman down the right side of the field; he then slid the ball to Doug Alpuche, who scored to give the Rovers a 1 - 0 lead. Then a few minutes later Taub crossed the ball to Alpuche who put in his second goal of the game to give the Rovers the win. All the boys played great and were anchored by another outstanding performance by keeper Robertson “Bo” Phillips.

(U13 Girls) Chappaqua Liberty 5 - Scarsdale 1

The Liberty exploded against Scarsdale today in a 5 -1 victory that saw many Liberty players excel on their home turf. The 80 degree heat did not deter the team from playing hard from the outset. Lily Wolfensohn scored twice on two nicely placed shots. Eva Sibinga also scored on a hard fought ball that found the back of the net. Two more Liberty goals were scored by first-time scorers: Juliana Posen, on a blast from the top of the box, and Sara McElheny, on a finely placed chip-in from her strong left side. Scarsdale scored late in the match, but the Liberty dominated play throughout. With only a few weeks left in the season, the Liberty is hitting its stride for what is shaping up to be a superb spring season!

(U10 Boys) Chappaqua Thunder 2 - Yonkers Cheetahs 3

The Thunder lost a very tough game to the Yonkers Cheetahs. Matt Neuberger scored two goals. Connor Groppa had a beautiful assist to set up the second goal. The Thunder dominated most of the game and had lots of good scoring opportunities.

(U10 Boys) Rye Brook Cosmos 2 - Chappaqua Wildcats 1

This afternoon, the Chappaqua Wildcats found themselves shorthanded and had to play more than half of the first half with one less player (8 v 7) when the opposing coach refused to play down. Under a scorching sun, the Wildcats found the energy to compete under these difficult conditions and even scored the first goal while shorthanded on a terrific play by Brad Neufeld. Two players arrived during the first half to enable us to play 8 v 8 the rest of the time. Rye Brook tied the score late in the first half but the Wildcats had a lot to feel good about with a halftime tie. Harrison Tulman started his first game of the season in goal and was outstanding in protecting the net and keeping the Wildcats in the game.

In the second half, the teams played pretty evenly, and fought for every ball. Tyler Sherman and Noah Kessler were instrumental in keeping play away from our net and controlling the play. Unfortunately, Rye Brook scored a goal late in the game on a play that appeared to us to be offsides. A disappointing way to lose, but the Wildcats should hold their heads high as they played a very competitive game, shorthanded, without breaks or substitutions on a hot humid day.

Next week the Wildcats host the Mamaroneck Gladiators in a highly anticipated rematch from last fall.

(U14 Girls) Chappaqua Stars 1 - Pleasantville Panthers 0

The Chappaqua Stars beat a very physical Pleasantville Panthers 1 - 0 from a well taken penalty kick in the second half by Gaby Kirschner. While the Stars played with only one sub, and Pleasantville had five subs on a very hot day, the Chappaqua girls did not back down from a challenging encounter. The Chappaqua midfield starring Nora Kerrich, Carolyn Wolf and Rebecca Passman worked tirelessly; the defense, marshaled by Amelia Philips and Sara Bonadies, stood strong against the Panthers forwards; and Dana Sorkin in goal made some fantastic diving saves to preserve the shutout.

(U10 Girls) Chappaqua Mustangs 1 - Larchmont (Blue Rockets) 1

Today’s game got off to a slow start with the heat of the afternoon bearing down on our players. The game was still scoreless at halftime. Larchmont made an early blunder at the beginning of the second half that ultimately gave the Mustangs the edge they needed. Forwards Amanda Glass and Emma Fetner along with mid-fielder Katrin Lewis were able to take advantage of the situation which ultimately set Glass up for the Mustang’s only goal. The teams were well matched and fought hard to dominate the game. With only two minutes left in the game, Larchmont scored on a corner kick. It was a well-played game by all.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Rockets 2 - Eastchester Panthers 1

Chappaqua Rockets 4 - Edgemont Premier 0

The Rockets had a successful weekend as they battled poor field conditions and the heat. The Eastchester make-up game was played on an awful field in very humid weather, with the Rockets at a very low level of energy. Nevertheless, goals by Bella Ardizzone (off a beautiful cross from Courtney Kerester) and Alessandra Giannasca led the Rockets to the win.

The Edgemont game (played on another poor field) featured the Rockets at their highest quality of play so far this season. The Rockets completely dominated all aspects of the game. The passing and movement off the ball were awesome, creating numerous opportunities. On defense, the Rockets yielded Edgemont only two shots on goal.

Goals were scored by Giannasca, Bryn Weiner, Morgan Spiegel and Arielle Smith. Many other Rockets (e.g., Molly Gonzalez and Kerester) had shots that sailed just wide or high of the net.
The Rockets take to the field against Harrison this weekend firmly in second place in Division 2 and riding a nice wave of momentum.

(U11 Girls) Chappaqua Wildfire 0 – Pelham Pistils 0

The Chappaqua Wildfire played the Pelham Pistils Sunday afternoon at Seven Bridges. The Wildfire dominated for most of the game, but unfortunately was not able to convert on any of the opportunities. Sammy Attia and Thea Schwartz were great in goal and helped to keep the Pistils scoreless throughout the game. The Wildfire is looking forward to their next game against the Scarsdale Stingrays this Sunday afternoon.

(U14G) Chappaqua Hornets 3 - Gotham Girls FC Warriors 1

The Hornets beat the previously unbeaten Gotham Warriors 3 -1, having lost to them 4 -1 earlier this spring. It was a solid effort all around. In the first half, Jenny Mak scored the first goal of the game followed by a left-footed goal by Issy Berkey. Lauren Marsico, one of our substitute keepers, played an excellent half and made a number of great saves. In the second half, Gotham cut the lead to 2 -1, but Jenny Mak scored a few minutes later to make it 3 -1. Andi Picker, our other substitute keeper, played an excellent second half. Our defenders Sammie Cartolano, Kaitlin Mak, Sarah Nadler and Leah Vanderwerff played exceptionally well. Our midfielders Hayley Adnopoz, Issy Berkey, Sara Novenstern, Jillian Green and Nicole Sirignano played solid games at both ends of the field. Kelly Ginsberg, Lauren Marsico, Jennifer Mak and Andi Picker, our forwards, kept the pressure on the Gotham defense throughout the game.
