Tomorrow, Saturday, October 3, Community Day at the Train Station
October 2, 2009
by John Ehrlich
Rain or shine , Community Day, hosted by the Rotary Club of Chappaqua in conjunction with the Town of New Castle, will be one of the largest yet, featuring 100 exhibitors, rides and attractions at Chappaqua train station plaza from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3. If it pours the booths and attractions will be moved to Bell Middle School across South Greeley Avenue but the day will go on as scheduled.
Every dollar raised at the event benefits local charitable organizations such as the Food Bank of Northern Westchester and the area food pantries. “The town meets its organizations and all the proceeds help fund community not-for-profits,” explained Peter Davidson, a 25 year Chappaqua Rotarian and past president.
Live music, rides and fun
Five hours of live music will entertain the crowds. Rides, food and fun will be available all day including a live band, plus:
Crash Course Obstacle Course
Dragon Castle
Millwood Shell NASCAR Race Car
Millwood Shell Racing Driving Simulator
The Ripcurl
Environmental awareness, Local Schools, and Health are major focuses of the day’s activities
To help find your way at this year’s Community Day booths and exhibits will be organized into special streets such as “School Street,” “Healthy Road,” and “Green Way.’ Be sure to stop by the Sustainability Advisory Board booth and the twenty different environmental and solar based booths from area businesses and groups. There will even be an “environmental Sukkah sponsored by Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester” according Dick Goldsmith.
Residents can come and meet with local area and national legislators.“We look forward to celebrating a bigger, better Community Day,” said Rotarian and Town Councilman John Buckley.
New Castle All Community Blood Drive and Donation Bus at the Event
The Rotary Club in collaboration with the Hudson Valley Blood Program will hold the Fall All Community Community Blood drive right at Train Station Plaza. “There really is a need in Westchester this year… big shortage. And the with the Girl Scout drive moving to January 2010 we hope to meet the Communities needs on Community Day at this drive” said John Rooney, a local attorney, Chappaqua Rotarian and this year’s Blood Drive Captain. Call 914-602-3410 to make an appointment or just stop by at the onsite Bloodmobile to donate.
As one Community Day donor said upon signing-up a few days ago, “With the economy the way it is it’s the one donation I can actually afford this year.”
Participating organizations and attractions
Over 85 local organizations have registered to meet the community on October 3 by making a donation of $75 or more to local not-for-profit organizations via Chappaqua Rotary and have a 10’ by ‘10 booth.
