The Hope for Haiti concert at the Greeley auditorium last Friday was a real success, with an equal number of adults and students turning out to support the efforts of the students, teachers and administrators of “Greeley Helps Haiti.”
“When you include the money from the concessions, which were a dollar, the tickets, which were ten dollars and the extra donations people made at the concert and the quarter collection during mid-terms and the deposits from recycling bottles and the donation cans put around town, we raised about $5000 in two weeks,” reported Isabelle Harris, one of the concert organizers.
The money raised will be divided between three relief groups, AFYA Foundation, a local organization that is collecting and sending medical supplies to Haiti; Partners in Health, an international organization that provides community-based healthcare to combat disease and poverty; and Oxfam International, which is delivering emergency supplies to Haiti including water, buckets, water treatment kits, shelter and sanitation facilities.
“We will continue to collect money in donation cans around town and collect bottles for recycling,” said Harris. “We are eager to continue to work together after the break to plan another event to help Haiti.”
