Next Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, when ghosts, goblins and witches will generally be about, hop on your broomstick and head over to 42 Memorial Plaza in Pleasantville (below Starbucks and next to the Pleasantville Post Office) to wander through the Little Village Playhouse Haunted House.
The special twist that this haunted house offers to families is variable scariness. It has been specifically designed to be fun for a range of ages, starting at three and up through adults. “It will be scary in ambiance,” explained Stephanie Kovacs Cohen, artistic director of Little Village Playhouse, referring to the “set” she and her crew will design and build. However, depending on the age of the goblins, fairies, Cinderellas or Spidermen visiting the house, the scary action can be modified to emphasize the theatrical, silly side of Halloween.
Youth actors from the Little Village Playhouse acting programs will play varying species of hosts, beckoning visitors from the lobby into the elevator to tour the haunted house below. As the groups of visiting goblins make their way through the maze-like hallways of the “house,” a visitor from another planet might make a scary, startling entrance, or appear as a fairy in a puff of magic dust.
After the tour of the house, there will be an arts and crafts table to make paper plate masks and every child will receive a goody bag of candy. The suggested donation is $5.00. For more information about the haunted house, call 914-747-6206.
The Little Village Playhouse (LVP) is a not-for-profit youth theatre group offering classes and workshops for children ages five through 18. “Theatre is one of the only truly collaborative art forms, and that is what the students learn from LVP, collaboration. This not only helps them to be successful in theatre, but also to be successful in working and dealing with people in everyday life,” explained Kovacs Cohen of the philosophy of the group.
