On Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library, James Bradley, best-selling author of “Flags of Our Fathers,” a descriptive account of the flag raising on Iwo Jima during World War II, will discuss his most recent and provocative book, “The Imperial Cruise.” In his new work, Bradley paints a very different picture of President Theodore Roosevelt than is generally known.
In 1905 President Roosevelt dispatched a diplomatic mission to Asia led by then Secretary of War, William Howard Taft, to spread Western civilization in line with Roosevelt’s strong beliefs in Aryan mythology and the responsibility of the white master race to exert leadership. Along on the mission was Roosevelt’s daughter, Alice, whom the author believes was included as a distraction while Taft conducted secret, and unconstitutional, negotiations with Japan and other Asian nations. The negotiated agreements recognized Japan as the Aryan nation of Asia and granted Japan considerable territory outside its homeland. Bradley argues that these secret pacts helped set the stage for World War II in the Pacific Theater.
