The Horace Greeley auditorium lobby is the happenin’ place to be on Thursday March 27th because at 7 p.m. the Greeley Stage Band hosts its annual Stage Band Night Club. Unlike the ever-so-popular Coffee House, held in the cafeteria, this event is a serene scene where the cool kids go to snap their fingers and play bongos. Well … not exactly, but the show is indeed Jazz.

This night club, with its dim mood lighting and table-and-chair audience arrangement, features the Greeley Stage Band with its ever-so -charismatic Band leader Dr. Ray “Doc” Lucia. Besides the stage band, there a few other chamber groups that will swing the night away such as The Soul Band and The Krull Quintet playing a few Charles Mingus tunes featuring myself on drum set, Kathryn Krull on piano, Klug on Bass, Jason Raylsburg on alto saxophone and Sean Kane on trombone with possible guests….
The Night Club takes in inspiration from such famous Manhattan jazz clubs as Birdland, The Blue Note and The Village Vanguard. In comparison to other Greeley concerts, this venue is a much more relaxed show, but don’t let it’s tranquil atmosphere fool you, the Night Club can really get cookin’.
Peter Gonzales is a senior at Horace Greeley who plays jazz drum set and piano. In September he’ll attend the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Pete has been deeply involved in music from a very young age.
