This weekend, New Castle soccer players and their friends and families will be teaming up with the Food Bank for Westchester in a cereal drive to help feed hungry families right here in our own community. All families with children in the Chappaqua Youth Soccer Club or AYSO are being asked to bring a box or two of cereal to their games or practices on Saturday, November 14.
Each team has a parent volunteer who will collect the cereal and deliver it to Bell Middle School. All members of the community are invited to support this important drive by bringing cereal donations to Bell during the Bell Craft Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday.
Cereal donations will also be gratefully accepted on Sunday, November 15 at the Food Bank for Westchester between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Food Bank is located at 358 Saw Mill River Road in Millwood.
In addition to cereal donations, the event’s organizers are looking for volunteer drivers (with large vehicles) who can help transport the cereal during the day on Saturday from Bell Middle School to the Whalen’s house at 275 Bedford Road for overnight storage and on Sunday to transport the cereal from the Whalen’s house to the Food Bank between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. If you are able to help, please contact Mary Whalen (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) or Jennifer Leventhal (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).
The Food Bank for Westchester is the sole supply and support center for approximately 200 frontline hunger relief member agencies throughout the entire county. The Food Bank distributes approximately five million pounds of food annually to those in need right here in our community. One-in-five Westchester residents is either hungry or at risk of hunger; 36% of Westchester’s hungry are children.
