The Quakers’ varsity football scrimmage on Saturday, September 4, against Pleasantville High School turned out to be a great final tune-up for the regular season. You come into a scrimmage thinking you have certain strengths and weaknesses. No official score is recorded, but after seeing another color jersey, you come out with a better idea of what you have to work on.
Unlike our scrimmage at Ossining on September 2, the scrimmage against Pleasantville was played under pseudo-game conditions. The Quakers played four timed quarters, each for 12 minutes’ running time with no stops, no kickoff and no kick returns.
The highlight of the scrimmage came when Josh Begleiter (‘11) intercepted a pass intended for a Pleasantville receiver and returned the interception for a touchdown. Overall, the Quakers displayed a solid effort and came out of the scrimmage unscathed.
Looking forward, the Quakers open their regular season away on Saturday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m. against the Bears of Brewster High School. The Quakers’ league, Section 1-A North, includes Brewster, Hendrick Hudson, Poughkeepsie, Walter Panas, Lakeland, Somers and John Jay/Cross River high schools.
The players and coaching staff are excited for the regular season to get under way. Hope to see you there!
