~ from Carrie Dillon

We had nearly 50 swimmers and raised $35K this morning and donations are still going strong.  It was quite an outpouring from the community.  Many participants were swimming in memory of loved ones who had battled cancer or to honor those who are battling it now. For some of the them, including a number of adults, it was their first time swimming these distances and they were encouraged by enthusiastic parents, volunteers and spectators.

Bobby Hackett, Katonah resident and 1976 Olympic silver medalist in the 1500-meter freestyle, gave a swim clinic on competitive training techniques to 20 younger swimmers as part of the event.  The children and parents were in awe of him!

Local vendors who donated refreshments or offered their services for the Swim Across America raffle included:  Le Jardin du Roi, Bagel Emporium, Healthy Choice Apothecary, Starbucks, Susan Lawrence Sherry B, Patrick Filacchione, Auntie Penny, Mango Cafe, Truck Restaurant, CrossFit Pleasantville and Mount Kisco.

Donations may still be made here.
