The recreation field gazebo is history. Gone. Having determined that its deteriorated condition was beyond repair, the town proceeded with its demolition, finishing up just this week.
Over the summer, the town board studied the possibility of replacing it with a design worked up by its downtown hamlet landscape architects, Nick Pouder Associates, then decided the cost was prohibitive. The board repaired to catalog versions of gazebos and, reported Town Administrator Gennaro Faiella, may soon authorize Superintendent of Recreation Robert Snyder to go bid to buy one, most likely with a hexagon shape rather than the old rectangular version. Snyder will also be asked how department of public works employees might be used to perform grading and other prep work. The board still intends to bring the next gazebo up to street level.
For the entire gazebo razing and replacement and grade raising, Faiella is estimating high, he said, “just to anticipate the unexpected,” a total cost of around $200,000. If the board authorizes the bidding, the new gazebo could be in place by this November, said Faiella.
