Wags and Whiskers’ landlord Christina Molz, a 50-year resident of New Castle, says workers will begin today, Friday, June 20, to replace the multi-paned shop window that was dramatically compromised three months ago by the nose of a car parked across the street in D’Agostino’s lot. The so-called smart car self-motivated and crossed the street with no driver, ending at Molz’s wall and window. (See our story from 5/30/08 )
Encompass, the insurer of the Pound Ridge driver of the car, had balked at meeting Molz’s estimate of around $16,000 for repair, offering first $6,000, then $9,000. Molz declined both amounts. After wrangling with one adjustor, then another, Molz followed her contractor’s suggestion and handed the job over to her own insurance company, Harleysville, to battle with Encompass. Harleysville agreed to give Molz an amount, she reported, that “leaves me out only about $600 to $1,000, which is pretty good, but still, breaking that window sure wasn’t anything I did myself.”
