In an effort to gain insight into New Castle’s citizens’ and merchants’ thoughts on possible retail developments in downtown Chappaqua, the summer interns at Perlmutter Properties offered anyone over the age of 10 the opportunity to fill out a brief survey that was provided online and as a hardcopy handed out around town. The survey addressed some of the pressing issues currently facing downtown Chappaqua. See “What’s your vision for downtown Chappaqua?” NewCastleNOW.org, July 24, 2009.

The idea for a survey of residents and merchants came from a confluence of events, explained David Perlmutter, its sponsor and a real estate broker. “I have a listing to market in Chappaqua and I’ve had a long standing concern about the fabric of our downtown. I thought it was a great opportunity to see what my fellow citizens and the merchants of Chappaqua would like to see to enrich their lives and serve their needs.” The survey was designed by summer interns, Jeremy Lippmann, Horace Greeley High School, Class of 2009 and Rachel Greenberg Horace Greeley High School, Class of 2010, for Perlmutter Properties, a White Plains - based real estate company that is owned by Chappaqua resident David Perlmutter.

After giving residents several weeks to respond, the interns began compiling data and looking for trends in peoples’ responses. In total, 174 unique responses to the survey were received, all of which included thoughtful suggestions to improve the downtown Chappaqua area. To view the results, click here.
