Friday, May 30

Movie: Animation Adventure is at 4:15 p.m. in the Chappaqua Library. Join us for popcorn and a screening of short animated films. The event is for grades two to five. Please register; space is limited. The films for this week include “Smurfs.”

Comical reading: Alan Sklar, a voice actor for radio, TV commercials, audio books and documentaries, will be reading four funny and entertaining stories in the main reading area of the library at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. 

Saturday, May 31

Electronic waste day: Bring your electronic waste to the New Castle Recycle Center from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bring your computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers and fax machines, which may then be reused, refurbished or recycled. Large household appliances such as refrigerators, stoves and dryers will not be accepted at this event. Discussion: Will Shortz will be at the Chappaqua Library at 11:00 a.m. The “New York Times” crossword puzzle editor will discuss clips of “Word Play,” a movie based on the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. Word games and prizes will follow his presentation..

Sleepover: Snoozin’ in the Stacks. The library sleepover is a Chappaqua tradition. It is open to children entering Kindergarten through fifth grade accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 15 families. The program runs from 7:00 p.m. until 9 a.m. on Sunday. Please register. 

 

Monday, June 2

The Friends of the Library Book Sale: Book, CD, DVD donations accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please use the theater entrance to drop off your donations.

CERT Meeting: The New Castle CERT meeting will be held in the town hall assembly room from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. All community members are welcome.

 

Tuesday, June 3

The Friends of the Library Book Sale: Book, CD, DVD donations accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m Please use the theater entrance to drop off your donations.

Government meeting: There is a joint meeting of the planning board and town board at town hall at 7:45 p.m.

Talk and ethnic dinner: The Amnesty International Ethnic Dinner will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Academic Commons at Horace Greeley High School. New Castle resident Laura Porter, from “New Yorkers against the Death Penalty,” will speak along with Jeffrey Deskovic, who was wrongly convicted at 17 of a rape and murder. Deskovic spent 16 years in jail until two years ago when he was exonerated by DNA evidence and help from the Innocence Project. School board meeting: The Chappaqua Board of Education will meet at 8:15 p.m.at the Seven Bridges Middle School. The board will formally honor retiring teachers and employees.

 

Wednesday, June 4

Story and movie: Reel Books: Listen to a story and see the book come to life on the big screen at 4:15 p.m. Talk about the story and the movie over snacks. This program is for grades 3 - 4 at the Chappaqua Library .Please register, space is limited.

Friends of the Library Book Sale:  Preview sale for members of the Friends only from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library.. Join or renew your membership at the door ($30).

 

Thursday, June 5

The Friends of the Library Book Sale: Sale is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library. The sale continues Friday, June 6 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. All remaining items are half price on Sunday, June 8 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. After that everything is free until the doors close at 5:00 p.m.

Millwood Task Force meeting: Thursday evening, June 5 (as always, the first Thursday of the month), at 8:00pm at Fire Station #2 on Route 134.  The public is invited to attend.
