The American Red Cross in Westchester County has been at the forefront of helping communities prevent, prepare for and respond to large and small emergencies. Their new Summer Red Cross Babysitting Training Camp is designed to keep children and their babysitters safe. This innovative and content-rich course is designed to impart life skills to teens ages 11-15.
Participants will learn how to create their own babysitting business, maintain a safe environment for children and respond to emergencies. Participants will receive American Red Cross Babysitting certification, Infant and Child CPR certification and Basic First Aid certification, all of which are commendable additions to a resume for future employment. In addition, babysitters will receive a participant manual, babysitter’s bag and notebook, a first aid kit and a “Don’t mess with the babysitter” t-shirt.
The babysitting camp will take place at the Westchester chapter of the American Red Cross located at 106 North Broadway, White Plains, NY. There will be two sessions. Session one runs from Monday, August 3 – Thursday, August 6, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Session two runs from Monday, August 10 – Thursday, August 13, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost for the four day course is $175.00. Space is limited, so for additional information or how to register please contact the Department of Preparedness at 914-946-6500 or visit www.westchestercounty.redcross.org.
“The American Red Cross . . . strives to give parents peace of mind by knowing that their babysitter has been Red Cross-trained and can handle emergencies that may arise while serving as a care giver,” stated John Ravitz, chief executive officer of the Westchester chapter of the American Red Cross. Topics to be covered by this course include building a babysitting business, creating a safe environment, understanding infants and children, responding to emergencies, bike and helmet safety and stranger awareness.
The American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters at home and abroad, collects and distributes nearly half of the nation’s blood supply, teaches lifesaving skills, and supports military members and families. The American Red Cross is a volunteer-driven organization, not a government agency and depends on charitable contributions of time, money and blood to perform its humanitarian mission.
