Friends of the Chappaqua Library Used Book Sale continues today 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, June 7

Friends of the Chappaqua Library Used Book Sale continues today with books HALF PRICE.  10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Strawberry Festival: The 71st Annual Strawberry Festival will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary the Virgin Church, which is located at North Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua, NY.

Strongman Contest: varsity football players, coaches and members of New Castle Police compete in tests of strength, speed and stamina including 800-Pound Tire Flip.  2:00 p.m. on football practice field, up from senior parking lot.  See flyer: Strongman_for_NCNOW.pdf

Relay for Life of Chappaqua: The opening ceremonies for Relay for Life of Chappaqua, a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society, at the Horace Greeley High School Track begin at 5:00 p.m., with the Survivor Lap immediately following. Concert: Westchester Jazz Orchestra will perform works of Antonio Carlos Jobim, best known for his early 1960’s hits “The Girl from Ipanema” and “Desafinado.” The concert will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the Seven Bridges Middle School Performing Arts Center, which is located at 222 Seven Bridges Road in Chappaqua, NY. Sunday, June 8

Friends of the Chappaqua Library Used Book Sale wraps up with giveaways: all remaining books are free 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Bring your own boxes and bags.

Greeley Pops Concert: The chorus, band and orchestra of Horace Greeley High School will perform a pops concert starting at 1:30 p.m. in the main parking lot of the school. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the outdoor performances!

Classical concert: The Westchester Philharmonic performs Mozart’s “Divertimenti” for pairs of oboe, bassoon and horn. The performance will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Banking Room at the Arts Exchange in the Westchester Arts Council, which is located at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue (at Martine Avenue) in White Plains, New York. Call the Arts Exchange at (914) 428-4220 x 223 for tickets. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 for general admission and $10 for children, students, members and seniors. Tickets purchased the day of show are $20 for general admission and $15 for children, students, members and seniors.

Monday, June 9

Rotary club meeting: The Chappaqua Rotary Club will host Barbara Gerrard, Town Supervisor and past President of the Chappaqua Rotary Club and its Area Representative, at their monthly luncheon at Crabtree’s Kittle House beginning at 12:15 p.m. Gerrard will discuss “what’s happening in town.”

For a change, The Chappaqua Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly meeting in downtown Chappaqua, in the Historical Society’s Horace Greeley House.  At 5:30, an hour of networking followed by a catered buffet dinner, with some historical perpsective by Gray Williams, then talk about what’s happening in town.  For more information call Matt Spencer at 238-2860. 

Government meeting: The Project for Public Spaces Downtown Steering Committee Meeting will meet in the assembly room of town hall at 7:30 p.m. The first 20 minutes are open to the public for comment.

Tuesday, June 10

PTA Award presentation and meeting: The Chappaqua PTA Closing Meeting and Honorary Life Award Presentation will occur in the Bell Courtyard (weather permitting) at 7:30 p.m.; otherwise it will be in the Bell library. 

Government meeting: The town board will hold its regular meeting at 7:45 p.m. in the assembly room of town hall.

Wednesday, June 11

Seminar: The Women’s Business Center will host a workshop on the business benefits of blogging, podcasting, and social networking. The workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the lobby classroom of the Women’s Business Center at 707 Westchester Avenue in White Plains, NY. The speaker is Jennifer Shaheen, founder of the Technology Therapy Group.

Music: Sing For Your Supper A Smorgasbord of Song will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Chappaqua library. The event features Terry Rakov, Catherine Campbell Nesbit and Julie Majchrzyck. This highly entertaining musical trio will combine their diverse talents in various styles from art songs to Broadway, from standards to opera. It is cosponsored by New Castle Recreation and Parks and is free and open to the public.

Thursday, June 2

Story and crafts: Celebrate U.S. Flag Day with a story and a craft! The program, “Oh Say Can You See?” is open to children in grades two and up at 4:15 p.m. in the Chappaqua library. Register online or at the library.
