Adult volunteers needed to help launch teen program

by Ann Marie Fallon“
New Castle Works Better When it Works Together” is the theme of the youth initiative to be launched this fall by the New Castle Recreation Department. They are looking for adult volunteers to assist with this exciting new program.
The Teen Alliance, which was featured in our April 23 edition, will consist of two groups, a middle school and a high school alliance. (See NewCastleNow.org, 4/23/08 “Become a Founding Member of New Castle Teen Alliance.”) The high school alliance will be comprised of three students from each grade level for a total of 12 representatives. The middle school alliance will have two students from each grade at both Bell Middle School and Seven Bridges Middle School for a total of 16 representatives. The two alliance groups will meet separately under the supervision of Matt Nordt, a recreation department supervisor, and Wayne Bass, assistant superintendent of recreation. They will meet twice a month starting in September 2008 to develop recreational programming for their respective age groups.
Adult volunteers are needed as alliance mentors, program coordinators and program chaperones. As an alliance mentor you would attend alliance meetings to assist Nordt and act as a liaison with program coordinators. Program chaperones would provide supervision on trips, during special events or as part of ongoing programs. Programming coordinators will assist Nordt with behind-the-scenes research and planning.
If you would like more information on how to get involved, please contact Matt Nordt at the New Castle Recreation Department at 238-3909.
